I've seen the "Star Wars Holiday Special" twice! Not all my friends were present during the first showing, so I had to sit through it again- all in the same weekend. It's absolutely horrid... probably the main reason why I drink so much alcohol today. :)

Seriously though, what I don't understand is why Lucas is so embarrassed by this show. He's sold his "Star Wars" characters to plenty of other worse products and third-party adventures since then. Is the holiday special really lamer than, say, those cheap Burger King watches or those awful 1980's ewok movies?

He should just embrace the holiday special and put it on DVD. It would sell like space-cakes. I'd even pick up a copy. Hell, I'd even allow him to tamper with it digitally... throw some gungans in the background or whatever.

Happy Life Day!

As I'm sitting here, resting off my christmas lunch, I couldn't stop laughing for about a minute at the mere mention of this film and the fact that it stars Wookies.

How fun that must be to watch such crap!

Merry Christmas all!  May the force be with you!

[that sounded so much worse now that I think about it, but I'll keep it as it stands...]

I just watched this a couple of weeks ago with my 10-year old.  We share your pain, Andrew.  And to do my part in sharing the pain, here is an MP3 of the complete Princess Leia "Life Day Song".

Carrie Fisher sings the "Life Day Song" (http://www.xmission.com/~carpentr/SWHS-LifeDay.mp3) (mp3, 2.4 mb)

(including the intro featuring Mark Hammill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, Anthony Daniels as C3PO and R2D2 bleeping himself)

Why...thank you...Gerry.  I'm going to have to find a way to repay you for that ugly little gift.  Something in 7.62 I think...

I kept picturing "The Sound of Music" but with Princess Leia instead.

Well, I am usually pretty happy to listen to a b-movie song.  Heck, I have a few CDs I have made by capturing songs off the films.  Stuff like the weirdo songs from "Zaat" and even the theme to "NeverEnding Story 3."  But Leia singing that idiotic Life Day thing is just too darn much.  It really is like watching someone play with razorblades.

That song is pretty damn funny, especially for it's absolute cheese and the way they incorporate the Star Wars Theme song into this song.

That little bit of dialogue at the start is great as well "oh I wish we were human..." Come on, how stupid is that?  Yup, it sure is an idiotic song alright.

The sad part is if the droids were human and had to listen to that they'd be wishing they were droids again!!!  It truly is awful.

Of course, I could post up the Bea Arthur cantina song, sung to "do do, do do" cantina tune if you'd like.

(I'm gonna get myself banned.)

I saw this way back when it was first on tv. The next day when I went to school we all were talking about it because...well...because it was related to Star Wars and therefore was "cool". Whee!

It still sounds better than Episode II.
