QuoteTeen boy hospitalised after being hit by a 'falling sheep' in Northern Ireland

A teenager hiking in Northern Ireland was taken to hospital after being hit by a wooly jumper on Friday afternoon.

The teen was hiking in the Mourne mountains with friends when he was reportedly hit by a sheep that had fallen from a steep slope.

He was walking with a group near the Hare's Gap when a sheep fell from a crag and struck him.

He was taken to the Ulster Hospital's emergency department, treated and discharged.

The Mourne Moutnains are among the most famous of the mountains on the island of Ireland.

Seventeen rescuers from the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team (MMRT) were involved in treating the youth and transporting him from the mountain.

Thankfully, MMRT reported that the sheep was okay after the fall too.

On a Facebook post about the rescue, the MMRT said the sheep: "was uninjured and left the area unaided".

They also said: "the casualty was assessed and treated for a range of potential injuries including head, neck, back, abdominal and leg injuries.

"When packaged, the casualty was evacuated by stretcher to track access and a team vehicle. After a short transfer to road access, the casualty was handed over to NIAS for further treatment and the onward journey to Hospital.

"17 members responded and stood down at 2000 hrs."

His friends will never let him live that down. As for the sheep, we are glad it was unharmed, but let me say, that sheep didn't fall, it jumped.
