Bad Movie Class Festival Nov 24th -28th, 2004

This is NOT a show, this is a series of classes. Each of these 10 films will feature a noted historian giving a lesson on why these cinematic explorations are so important.

There is an opening lecture and critique, but it doesn’t end there. While the movie plays, students are encouraged to make vocal observations.  These 10 anti-classics will feature some of the strangest attempts at storytelling in human history. (sort of like a mix between Mystery Science Theater 3000 and a college level Film History class)

The high point of the weekend will feature “The Lesson of SLOW BULLET.” This movie is the pinacle of poor filmmaking. Currently, it doesn’t exist on www.imdb.com. It was produced by a small video rental chain based in Florida and had an ultra limited release only in it’s stores. It is about a tormented Vietnam Vet who fights the horrific memories of being in “The ‘Nam”. Shot on location in Florida, using wedding video cameras, and featuring a blistering score of heavy metal music, this is the worst movie ever made. There are other classes of note: “The Lesson of Nukie”, a poor rip-off of E.T.,  â€œThe Lesson of Gymakta”, a form of martial arts that blends in Gymnastic and Karate, and “The Lesson of (The Un-Named Bad Movie)” that is so bad that the actors in it won a law-suit that makes it illegal to own a copy or show it in any form in North Amercia.

This series of classes will also help launch the new weekly slot that Bad Movie Class will have at Juvie Hall, a new theater in NOHO that NYPress has said that it “… showcases an eclectic and experimental cast of sketch comedians.” And “Juvie Hall (opened in Sept 2004) may emerge as one of the city's premier comedy venues, given its easy-going atmosphere, intimate stage, and convenient location.”

Tuition: Each class is $5 per lesson and will also feature giveaways & door prizes. There is a $15 weekend pass that will entitle the student entrance into all of the classes.

Tuition can be purchased in advance via www.smarttix.com

Detailed Schedule For The BAD MOVIE CLASS Festival, 2004:

Wednesday Nov 24th
8pm- The Lesson of Warlords 3000 (1992)

Set in a distant post-apocalyptic future when the environment has been blasted into a poisoned wasteland and society has degenerated to rule by competing hordes of marauding gangs. There is one warrior, though, who fights to bring some semblance of peace and order to the land. When his family is brutally murdered, however, he becomes obsessed with seeking out their killer and taking his revenge.

Thursday Nov 25th
8pm- The Lesson of Mandroid (1993)

In his hidden laboratory deep in Russia, Dr. Karl Zimmer has invented the Mandroid, a humanoid robot which follows the motions of a man in a special control suit. He has offered the invention to the USA, who have sent Smith and Wait from the CIA for inspection. However Zimmer's partner Drago has different plans, wants to sell Mandroid to the military. The night he tries to steal Mandroid, he becomes exposed to the highly toxic Superconn. But he can flee and won't give up on Mandroid, even though he's terribly disfigured.

Friday Nov 26th
6pm- The Lesson of Christmas Evil (1980)

Widely recognized as the best of the Christmas horror efforts, Christmas Evil is the story of a boy who loves Christmas. He is scarred as a boy when he learns that Santa is not real. Throughout the rest of his life, the toy-maker tries to make the Christmas spirit a reality. He becomes obsessed with the behavior of children and the quality of the toys he makes.

8pm- The Lesson of Gymkata (1985)

Johnathan Cabot is a champion gymnast. In the tiny, yet savage, country of Parmistan, there is a perfect spot for a "star wars" site. For the US to get this site, they must compete in the brutal "Game". The government calls on Cabot, the son of a former operative, to win the game. Cabot must combine his gymnastics skills of the west with fighting secrets of the east and form GYMKATA!

10pm- The Lesson of Rock N’ Roll Nightmare (1987)

At an old farmhouse, a family mysteriously dissapears at the hands of evil. Years later, hair metal band The Tritons comes to the farmhouse, whose barn now features a 24-track recording studio. Lead singer John Triton gets the band to perform their first night in the farmhouse after dinner, and weird little beasties suddenly appear, and strange things start to happen.

Saturday Nov 27th
6pm- The Lesson of  Yor: Hunter From The Future (1983)

Yor, an extremely blond prehistoric warrior, comes to question his origins, particularly with regard to a mysterious medallion he wears. When he learns of a desert goddess who supposedly wears the same medallion, Yor decides that he must find her and learn his true identity. Along the way, he encounters ape-men, dinosaurs, and a strange futuristic society.

8pm- The Lesson of Slow Bullet (1988)

A Vietnam veteran is haunted by a bloodbath that he witnessed in the jungle hell. He sits in his room, mad at the world, and himself. Noted film critic Elliott Kalan said: “I think I finally understand what it's like to be a Vietnam vet now, from "Slow Bullet", and I've gained its message about the horrors that war's survivors must go through. Only I didn't get it the way they meant me to. I got it because I hate "Slow Bullet". "Slow Bullet" is the purest and most excruciating thing I have experienced on film or television. Because of that, it is both the greatest and the worst work of video art I have ever seen. Watch it at your peril.”

10pm- The Lesson of (The Un-Named Bad Movie)

A bad movie that is so bad that the actors in it won a law-suit that makes it illegal to own a copy or show it in any form in North Amercia.

Sunday Nov 28th
6pm- The Lesson of Black Ninja (2003)

Malik Ali is an "infamous lawyer" who defends criminals (who are guilty no less, makes no sense) then at night he fights the same criminals with his ninja abilities, which aren't too impressive. He uses the moniker Black Ninja to hide his identity, along with a batman style mask.

8pm- The Lesson of Nukie (1993)

Two aliens, Nukie and Miko, crash-land on different parts of the Earth. Miko is quickly captured by an American space agency, while Nukie, who has landed in the middle of the African savannah, wanders about until he befriends two young children. Will Miko survive the scientists' experiements? Will Nukie ever be reunited with his space-travelling companion?
