This movie is very underrated and doesn't deserve the 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It was very funny and has unique cinematography.
The Rotten Tomatoes "Critic Consensus" claims that without characters to care about it loses its thrill.
...My ass it does! I'm not a fan of strictly action oriented movies and I usually like deep characters but Hardcore Henry doesn't need them.
The entire movie is about the action and the thrills never go away. I feel like people that make this criticism missed the entire point of the movie.
The original 1993 version of DOOM was a revolutionary game that barely had a story at all and it's considered one of the best games ever made.

Not every movie needs deep and complicated characters and I'm kinda p**sed at critics for turning their noses up at a film with shots like these.
My favorite kind of action in any movie is the type that makes me think "How the hell did they get these shots?!" That's what I thought with I, Tonya's
skating scenes and that's what I think of Hardcore Henry. The critics are trying to judge the film by criteria that is was never meant to meet.
Try flipping it around. Nobody complains that When Harry Met Sally has no action scenes, why? Because that's not the point of the goddamn movie!

Y'know I was just going to share my opinion on the movie, but I found the Rotten Tomatoes page when I was trying to make sure it came out in 2015 but the
"Rotten" score p**sed me off. This isn't a "Rotten" movie. It may not be a masterpiece but calling it "Rotten" is way too far. Also isn't 5/10 average? So on Rotten Tomatoes
average is bad? Ugh.

Anyway to put aside my angry rant Hardcore Henry is an action movie that's shot entirely in first person. I don't know if they used a GoPro or something
but it puts you into the action the best way possible, by making you part of it. It reminds me of a video game, which I think is what they're going for. There's one scene
where Henry busts through somebody's apartment and you can see posters for Payday 2 and Left 4 Dead. There's even a scene very reminiscent of trying to
hold out against an enemy horde while waiting for a slow moving object to reach its destination. Won't say which one though. Spoilers.

Ultimately Hardcore Henry is an action comedy that revels in the fact that it's so over the top while showing off impressive cinematography and great stunts.
It's as immersive as a movie can possibly be. With a name like "Hardcore Henry" you'd be a total moron to think you'd be getting anything else.

8/10

Oh hell yea, this is a fun movie. My first thought after finishing it is that Hardcore Henry is exactly the kind of style that Doom (1994) should've had. I liked this a lot more then I thought I would. This movie completely succeeded in what it want to be: a first person action movie.

I was pretty engrossed for the first half hour or so, and then the gimmick wore off for me.
"I shall smite you in the nostrils with a rod of iron, and wax your spleen with Efferdent!!"

It contains one of my favorite movie insults of all time.

When Hardcore Henry is chasing a parkour henchmen, the guy stops and tells Henry:  "You're half robot, Half P@$$Y!"

I think I laughed for a minute straight when I heard that line delivered.
At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

My 11 year old son loved this movie, but he's a big time video gamer so the first-person P.O.V. thing was not unusual for him. I thought it was neat idea at first but it got old pretty quick. The non-stop ultra-violence was entertainingly silly  though.
