if the drop-off in quality from "the amityville horror" to "amityville 2: the possession" is any indication, what you'd heard is undoubtedly the case.

AMITYVILLE 3-D is probably the most palatable of all the AMITYVILLE movies.  I've seen every single one of them and I can tell you that none of them can be termed "good".  At least the third movie still takes place in the original house, something that can not be said for the sequels that follow it.

In the third movie, a reporter who doesn't believe in the supernatural moves his family into the Amityville house.  His daughter ends up dying in an accident and, in what is the entire series only intentionally creepy moment, his wife sees the dead daughter in the house.  After that they get a team of paranormal investigators and hilarity ensues.

The movie was released in theaters in 3-D, a fact which is glaringly obvious when you watch the movie.  There are long lingering shots of things shooting out at the audience.  Unfortunately, after the theatrical release the movie was never released in 3-D again.  If you're like me and watching an old VHS copy the effect is less than thrilling.

Also of interest, the daughter is played by Lori Loughlin and her friend shows up as a young Meg Ryan.  Star power like that in a crappy low-budget horror movie wouldn't be seen again until CHILDREN OF THE CORN 4 and 5.

If you have the same musical tastes I do, you may also note that some lines of dialogue have extensively sampled by the musical group My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult.

So there you go, all you ever wanted to know about AMITYVILLE 3-D (but were afraid to ask).  I do not recommend watching the movie, or any of the AMITYVILLE series, but if you're going to anyway, AMITYVILLE 3-D is probably the least offensive choice.

Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

It's kind of funny, especially as the movie drags on (as opposed to Jaws 3-D, which just makes my head hurt when I watch it). To be honest, the funniest unintentionally funny movie I've ever witnessed is Frankenstein Conquers the World; even when I'm in the worst of moods, this flick always makes me smile. Maybe it's the dubbing...
