Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965)

Based on a story from the BBC TV serial "Doctor Who". Scientist Dr. Who accidentally activates his new invention, the Tardis, a time machine disguised as a police telephone box. Dr. Who, his two grand-daughters, and Barbara's boyfriend Ian are transported through time and space to the planet Skaro, where a peaceful race of Thals are under threat of nuclear attack from the planet's other inhabitants: the robotic mutant Daleks.

Dr. Who and the Daleks isn't very good.  The neatest thing about it is that the Daleks have an interesting "fog" weapon rather than their standard "kill beam".  Peter Cushing gives the worst (perhaps only bad) performance of his career in this movie.

Just get the real Dr. Who episodes upon which it's based.

I've not seen Dalek Invasion of Earth: 2150 AD.  The previews make it look pretty entertaining, at least.  Lots of Mario Bava-esque black clad villains and people running over Daleks with ambulances.

I used to have a VHS of Dr. Who and the Daleks starring Peter Cushing. Funny thing is that in these movies the Doctor is not a time lord, but just nice old grandpa who invents things. I don't know about Invasion Earth, but in the Daleks the story is pretty much scene for scene from the Dr. Who episodes once they reach Skaro.

I've seen both, and probably "Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D." is the better of the two. Or, at least, the more memorable of the two. I think I saw both of them just to see Cushing a couple more times. While he did play Dr. Who here, it is just unfortunate that he never got to play one of the Dr. Whos in the television series. What a great Dr. Who he would have been.
