I just purchased this DVD boxed set.  You might want to check it out if you're a fan of the low-budget, dubbed, post-apocalypse movies of the 1980s.

The set contains unrated, widescreen versions of:

* 2019: AFTER THE FALL OF NEW YORK - starring Michael Sopkiw and George Eastman.

* 1990: BRONX WARRIORS - starring Fred Williamson, Vic Morrow, and George Eastman.

* THE NEW BARBARIANS (aka WARRIORS OF THE WASTELAND) - starring Fred Williamson and George Eastman.

Boy, that George Eastman guy certainly got around!  His real name is Luigi Montefiori and IMDB lists 13 different names he used in various movie credits.

I saw at least 2 of these (maybe all 3) during their original U.S. theatrical runs (but I bought the DVDs anyway).

I watched 2019: AFTER THE FALL OF NEW YORK last night, and it was good, cheesy fun.  The destroyed city of New York is represented by unconvincing models and miniatures (it looks like a kid set up some toy buildings and someone filmed them), and the sets, props, and costumes look pretty ridiculous.  But the movie is never boring and has a few brief gore scenes (including an eye-gouging and a guy's intestines coming out after he gets sliced with a sword).  Michael Sopkiw (from Connecticut) is "Parsifal," a hero who reminds me of Christopher Lambert for some reason.  (He doesn't look like him, but he acts like him).  The picture and sound quality are excellent (it was remixed in 5.1dolby digital).  Recommended for 96 minutes of mindless fun.

I'll probably watch the others before the end of this weekend.

I own 1990: BRONX WARRIORS but haven't watched it.  Let me know what you think.

I just finished watching 1990: BRONX WARRIORS.  Here are my comments:

* First of all, it's not really a "post-apocalyptic" movie.  The premise is that the government has decided the Bronx is too violent and is not worth the effort to try to maintain law and order.  So the police pull out and leave the Bronx in the hands of the street gangs.  There is no apocalypse involved.

* The movie is a partial rip-off of THE WARRIORS.  The gangs wear colorful, cartoonish costumes.  One gang wears rollerskates  and World War II German helmets (painted white).  They fight with metal hockey sticks.  Another gang wears Broadway chorus line outfits and performs little dance steps while they are fighting.

* The plot involves a rich Manhattan girl who is about to inherit her family's corrupt corporation.  She runs away to the Bronx where she meets "Trash," the leader of a biker gang.  (The actor who plays Trash is a tall, thin guy who walks around very straight and stiff, like he has a pole up his ass).  On the trail of the runaway girl is Vic Morrow (as "Hammer") in one of his final roles.  Fred Williamson plays "Ogre," a rival gang leader.

* They tried to do a quality lip-synch job when they dubbed this movie.  In some ways, this is good because the actors lips and the dubbed dialogue match up reasonably well.  In other ways, it is bad because the dialogue often has an unnatural rhythm to it and there are a few "out of place" pauses in the dialogue where they tried to match the lip movements to the speech.

* As silly as it is, this movie is fun to watch.  I'd like to see ESCAPE FROM THE BRONX, which is supposedly the sequel.

Ahh 1990: BRONX WARRIORS. I have defended this movie so many time with the timeless saying 'Well it wasn't THAT bad". So many people trash the hell out of it.

The only thing that I didn't like was "Trash" the gang leader. His back looked like someone punched  in his spine.

Also their was a scene with the guy with the glasses, he fall offs his bike that looked awful real. I always wondered if it was.

Escape from the Bronx is a good cheesy bit of fun.  I picked it up expecting it to be really bad.  It wasn't great but it was entertaining.  I just can't imagine trying to ride a bike, fight or climb stairs in jeans that tight.
