Lagomorphs: menace or underutilized resource?

« on: May 07, 2006, 05:30:06 PM »

I found this page and thought it was kind of funny: Grudge Match.

It seems most people believe the Death Star could defeat the Enterprise in approximately 2.3 seconds.

Kind of a one sided fight....

Battlestar Galactica vs Enterprise would be a better match.

Okay, what about a Borg cube vs. the Death Star? Any better?

The Borg were ruined long before Voyager. One word: Hugh.

There are two things the Enterprise could do. They could see if the old corbomite bluff might work, provided Vader's force powers wouldn't allow him to see through it. The other possibility would be to get captured and pulled inside by the tractor beam, then self destruct.

Overall, though, it does seem like a pretty one-sided fight. How about V'Ger vs. the Death Star? They're closer in size and invincibility. Could the superlaser get past V'Ger's defenses, which seam capable of absorbing vast amounts of energy? Would V'Ger be capable of digitizing something as big as the Death Star in one go?

Fair Enough.  Let's just say the Borg in the "Q Who."

Could the death star actually destroy the Enterprise?

It always seemed to me that the Death Star was there to destroy planets and didn't really have an defenses against ships.  The Death Star weapon seemed to take a while to warm up, and had to focus on a large (seemingly unmoving) object such as a planet.  I have a feeling that the Enterprise would be able to dodge any attacks from the Death Star itself.

Now, if it was the Enterprise against a fleet of tie fighters......that's a bit different.

In Return of the Jedi, the superlaser was blasting the bigger cruisers, and could even be aimed at an angle. Mind you, that seems less impressive than when they had to point the whole Death Star, warm up for several minutes, then blast a whole planet.

What if you put the Death Star up against the spacecruiser Yamato? Superlaser vs. wave gun. Of course, in the end, the Yamato would be saved by Wildstar and Nova's love, or by Desslok showing up at the last minute with the Gamilon fleet.

Or the Death Star vs. John Saxon and his stellar convertor? Or Ender Wiggin and the little doctor? Or a Solarian ship with a nuclear intensifier?

Jeez, how many superweapons are there in science fiction? That's worth a whole other thread.

It depends on which Enterprise.  Normally I'd pick the DS, but if it is ST:TNG, then Wesley Crusher would just reverse the polarity of the tachyon particle stream and reroute them from the main engines to the lasers and presto, yet another BS win for Captain Picard.

I vote for the Death Star.  I recall that there were other turbolaseres geared against big ships, notto mentiomn 100's of distracting TIE fighters.
By the way, shouldn't Trek be weighing in on this?

A better match would be the Defiant from DS9. A small overpowered ship with a cloaking device a s**tload of those quantum torpedoes, not to mention those rapid fire pulsed phasers and ablative armor. They could take down the DS in one pass.

I love the Defiant. Its my favorite Trek ship.   Fast, basic, packs a wallop. I'd put it against any ship in space.  Heck it was designed as a Borg-buster.
