Surprise, surprise, Dolph Lundgren is back! Although according to the IMDB he never left, I gave up renting his films after Retrograde and The last patrol left my brain completely desecated.
However, when I learned tow of his latest direct-to-DVD efforts were directed by the man himself, I had to rent them. And surprise, surprise, they're actually pretty good.
Don't take me wrong, Lundgren is no Orson Welles, but both The defender and The mechanik are not only more slick and well shot than most similar productions, they're also almost pure, honest 80ish action films, the type Steven Seagal or Van Damme did in their prime.
Amazing. This, together with the fact that The Defender, the one that features Jerry Springer as the president of the U.S., is actually the best of the two makes me think the Evil Guvernment has been pouring LSD in my water supply. By barrels.
