Cost of rental: $3.99
Cost of pizza: $9.99
Watching a snake get killed with a guitar: PRICELESS

I liked this film a lot, it was great fun watching the guy with the posessed hand try to control it. (The inspiration for IDLE HANDS?) I really cracked up when they showed the snake-dog. Can you say "hand puppet"? The gore FX were truly gross n' gruesome (a bit too much for me, sorry to say) but then what do you expect from Screaming Mad George? Plus, who can forget the scene where they run over zillions of rubber snakes? Hehehehe!

I've never seen the other sequels, but as I can deduct from the online reviews, they get less and less Curse-like with each suceeding film.

I haven't seen CURSE II, or any of the sequels for that matter, but I count the first CURSE as one of the grossest movies I've ever seen.  Hey!  Have you seen a cowhead explode into a maggot filled pile of meat?  No?  Rent THE CURSE.  And of course the first CURSE inexplicably featured Wil Wheaton.  ("Hey!  I was good in STAND BY ME!")

Of course the first CURSE was based on the H.P. Lovecraft story "The Colour From Outer Space".

Now that I think about it, though, are we talking about the same series of movies?  I seem to recall a diferent series of CURSE movies than the one I am thinking of.  Didn't one have to do with a vampire?  Sorry, I'd be more conclusive, but these series are firmly entrenched in the ten-year old, "Hey!  I saw that movie box at the video store!" part of my memory.

Besides, could this possessed hand have precursored EVIL DEAD 2?

Same series, if you want to call it that.   They aren't related to one another except in name.  There were at least four in the set before someone got tired of making them.  The third one was set in South Africa and had Christopher Lee in it.  The fourth one (called Catacombs, I think) I know nothing about, but it could have had vampires in it.

The Curse Series was actually nothing of the sort.  Trans World Distributing just slapped the generic title on horror genre films it had bought and released.  The name familiarity gauranteed slightly larger sales in the then tightening video market.

The Curse was the actual title.
Curse 2: The Bite was simply meant to be The Bite.
Curse 3: Blood Sacrifice was really just Blood Sacrifice.
and Curse IV: "The Something or Other" was Catacombs, a really above average philosophical horror thriller from David Schmoeller, it was one of Empire's last 'big budget' films and was sold to Trans World when Band's Empire crumbled.

"In Name Only" sequels were the bane of the video market in the late eighties and early nineties.  Some movie would be a hit and numeric spin-off titles would simply be slapped onto other movies (regardless of content, etc) in the hopes that profits would rub off as the market and its once golden revenues continued to shrink.

So it goes
