I didn't get to see this whole movie, cuz the people sharing the television with me kept demanding to change the channel it was so bad, until i begged adamantly that they turn it back.  I don't think it would have been coherent if i had watched it through. The actors were mostly california pretty boy types with no personality, there was a kid as well that was a main character, it was almost definitely filmed in the 70s, - lots of bellbottoms. not even sure if it was supposed to be earth or not.  get the idea they were exploring a planet of mostly earthlings with the rare alien lady here and there who could do telepathy with cats - these were not major characters (i think they were called star people or something like that) It also featured a prominent fight scene at the end starring a group of about 5 - 7 good guys against a large brain in a red hexagonal machine with a clear dome top with lights around it that spoke in a deep voice and apparently was used to being in charge - i think he was supposedly repelling their bodies away from him - so the actors got to struggle in mid-air until they could smash his dome somehow. it was great. it was also like twenty years ago when i saw it, so i might not be crystal clear accurate and like i said i unfortunately never saw the whole thing, but i've been looking for it on and off for years. please help me if you can. it actually may have been from the late 60s rather than 70s, i'm not sure.  maybe someone knows someplace i can look for totally incoherent movies from that particular era?

That sounds like the pilot episode of the TV series "The Fantastic Journey."  It was very '70s looking, a couple hours long, and the plot involved the group being stuck in the ancient civilization of Atlantis, which was all technological and ruled/run by this big red brain thing.  It was one of those deals that absorbed me at the time, but if I saw it now I'd cringe in shame.

I don't know about the telepathic with cats thing, though.  That doesn't ring a bell.

If one of the characters had a magic/Hi-tech Tuning fork then it's definitely "The Fantastic Journey". The tuning fork would have been used by Jared Martin (actor's name) who was one of the leads in the "War of the Worlds" tv series from the mid 90s.

thank you so much el dogo! i looked it up on imdb and it is definitely the one! one person mentioned that two people and one cat on the show were telepathic. a lady named Liana always carried the cat around - they sound like they were mostly not aliens (save one) but people from atlantis and the future and stuff.  Someone else mentioned that around 1980 someone took the extra long pilot and the episode that came after that and tried to smoosh the two episodes into one movie calling it "Lost in Time". I am thinking this is most likely what i've seen because as i said it was vastly incoherent and did seem to jump around a bit and that would definitely explain the bad editing.  I will definitely track this down if i can, maybe it's time i watched the original and not the cobbled together version (though i admit the cobbling did have some sort of nonsensical charm).  Thanks again!
