Here's a dissenting opinion: This movie was a big disappointment after all the hype this friend of mine gave me.  She convinced me to watch all three, and in my opinion, they get progressively better.  Army of Darkness was a good, funny comedy-horror movie in my opinion.  Evil Dead was far less entertaining.  It was nothing but gore by the bucketful.  That can be fun, but not all by itself. Evil Dead II seemed like exactly the same movie only better because it had more of a sense of humor.

Isn't everyone a teen when they see this movie? I was.

I thought this movie was great. It wasn't AS gory as I was refered to by it's reputation, but it's better than that. It's very scary. It has an eery atmosphere that kept me in suspense the whole way through.

I'm not necessarily squeemish about gore but one part that got me in this movie (and in HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL) was when Linda got a pencil shoved through her ankle. That just grossed me out.

Ahh, Evil Dead. What else to say about it that hasn't been said already? An awesome movie, with lots of gore, a few slow parts, creepy monsters, the ultimate hero (Ash), and of course, the tree rapists. I still havn't seen the other two movies (will rectify that soon), but if the other comments are any clue, I expect a good movie. And two slimes? Damn, it needs at least one more slime to do the movie justice.

This film scared me rigid when I first saw it as an impressionable teenager, and I'm pleased to say it still delivers shivers in abundance today. One black mark is the rape scene. It is crass, and forcefully demonstrates the director's misogyny.

I vividly remember seeing this movie as an impressionable kid. I was alone in a huge old theatre, and it scared the hell outa me!!

When i first saw Evil Dead i was taken back for several reasons. For starters the film is awesome and very unique. I couldn't believe how groundbreaking the film for its time. No film that was made in the late seventies or early eighties can compete with The Evil Dead. Second, i couldn't believe that with a budget of $375,000 two stars were born. Sam Raimi has gone on to direct several criticly acclaimed films that include A Simple Plan and Spider-man. Bruce Campbell has gone on to star in several films and his own television series. Bottom line, a great movie like this only comes around in a long while and has such a strong impact on the movie industry.

Evil Dead - The Mother of...of...no matter of what!
It's a really great movie (it's Raimi's "Masterpiece", like "Bad Taste" is Jackson's), i luv it.
Of course the masks of the possessed people look like stolen from the garbage of Jim Henson, and most of the actors aren't much better than any C-Porno-Star, but the atmosphere and the style of narrating the story is really great...if ya don't take it as a "serious" horrormovie.

The Evil Dead Trilogy - a great experience in entertainment!

...Oh yeah: The voice of the german Linda is great "Wir kriegen Dich, wir holen Dich wir werden Dich bekommen...Du ganz uns nicht entkommen"

I think the best thing about this movie was the atmosphere that pulled me into the movie. the creepy dark murky feeling that things aren't quite right and probably bad things are going to happen. 2 and army just didn't match up to that edgy tension in my opinion. Ash in this one wasn't a "hero" yet just a scared guy trying hard to survive. and the in the woods rape/sex/seduction scene is still a amazing and impressive piece of work!

I think this movie is great. I just seen it recently and it is so fake and outrageous that it is hilarious. My sides were aching all through it and I can't wait to see the sequals.

This is the movie that introduced Bruce Campbell to the world. Yes, it is true that the remake was a bit more polished, but for a true horror fan, this was a low budget classic. I think your rating was kind of harsh...

Personally, this wasn't my favorite in the Evil Dead Series, but it was very cool. I cringe everytime Cheryl jams that pencil into Linda's ankle. God! That must hurt!
Anyway, I found that the funniest thing in the entire movie is when Ash says, "Oh, you bastards. Why are you torturing me like this?" I laughed because he sounds like the little twelve year old that just had his lunch money stolen from him. Well, in short, I liked this movie, but not very much. However, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness are freakin' AWESOME!

My girlfriend said that horror movies don't scare her anymore. I put on Evil Dead. I fell asleep during the movie. She hasn't forgiven me yet. She refuses to watch any horror movie again. I can't even make jokes about going camping to her.

Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are my heroes!!!!!! This is one of the best B-Horror movies I have ever seen! See it once and watch it again with the comentary, it's just way too funny!
God bless the Evil Dead series!

Evil Dead was the first actual Gore fest I ever saw, so the first time I saw it I freaked out. It gave me a wierd nightmare all my freinds agreed that it was really freaky but after the 3rd time I saw it I realized it had quite a lot of humor and cheesy acting however it's still pretty freaky and Bruce Campbell did a great job. I give this film a 5 out of 5 even though most people will say ED2 was the pimp daddy of the trilogy (witch who can argue) I'd suggest anyone who hasn't seen it watch it alone first just before dawn for an ultimate scare. Best wishes "Crispy Fish"!

I didn't think the movie was THAT bad. It was low budget, what dyu expect? Acrylic paint and fruit punch sort of look like blood. haha. Anyway it wasn't really a zombie knock off movie as lots of people deem it. The only flesh eating was evil Scotty biting Ash's leg. I wanted it to have zombies, beleive me. It was, in fact, Scotty chopping his girlfriend into little peices that made me watch the rest. The tree rape was random and vile. I thought it was kind of funny how Ash was squashed under a shelf 2 different times. But i felt sorry for Scott getting mauled by trees and Ash trying to make him drink what looked like watered down liquid soap.
