Does anyone know what this film might be? I'm about 70% sure it was a UK film rather than a US one and I last saw it on TV in the early to mid 70's. We only had a B&W TV in those days but even so I'm pretty sure it was a B&W film. Anyway this is the scenario as far as I remember it:

There were two sisters and one of them gets kidnapped by a mad scientist who takes her to his secret laboratory beneath his creepy mansion where he removes her head and keeps it alive. I don't know why he did this or what he did with the rest of her. Later the other sister comes to the mansion with a man (the hero I presume) looking for her missing sister. She manages to gain access to the laboratory where she finds a box on a table. She opens the door at the front of the box to reveal her sister's head inside. The head looks up at her and mouths the word H E L P over and over again.

I cannot remember any more about the film but the scene where the sister finds the head in a box was really scary at the time and we named the film "Head in a box" after that. I've been trying to find out about it for many years but without success and I would love to get a copy of it on DVD. I recently bought a copy of "The brain that wouldn't die" in case that was it, but it wasn't. I would be very grateful if anyone has any information about this film that might give me a title, actors names and where to get a DVD etc.

Sounds like The Frozen Dead (1966)

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

I've checked out the synopsis of The Frozen Dead and I don't think it's that film, but thanks anyway for the suggestion.

I have to admit that I believe Shadowfyre has a good match with "The Frozen Dead."  Here is a review written by Apostic some years ago:

If not, my next best guess would be "The Head."

I have to admit, now that I've read the review you suggested, that "The Frozen Dead" could be the film. The only way to be ceratin now is to get hold of a copy and have a look. Many thanks.

However, if anyone has any other thoughts or alternative possibilities please let me know.

Anyone know where I could get a Region 2 copy on DVD in the UK?
