The Shawshank Redemption and Kagemushu are two movies that really get me involved with the characters and the stories, I could watch either film over and over again and still enjoy them. Thumbup Thumbup

Does Superman: The Movie count as a serious film? I know it has campy elements, but underneath it all there's (to me anyway) a genuinely moving story, and Lex Luthor can be a pretty scary villain when he wants to be.

Runners-up would be Eight Millimeter, and The Poseidon Adventure.

I've given this a lot of thought,
I actually like ALOT of 'serious" movies.
In fact< I just got done watching FULL METAL JACKET. A dam good movie.
I even watch "film student" type of movies sometimes-like The BATTLESHIP POTEKMIN.
And classics like Fritz Lang's M,Metroplis,SIEGFRID.
The LOST WEEKEND with Ray Milland I can identify with,as well as DAYS of WINE and ROSES.
I like 12 ANGRY MEN,BEN HUR,SAVING PRIVATE RYAN,ON the WATERFRONT,AMERICAN HISTORY X, VAMPYR,the BIG PARADE,RAGING BULL,APOCOLYPSE NOW,the VAMPIRES NIGHT ORGY,BLACKENSTIEN,SATAN"SADISTS, I DRINK YOUR BLOOD,the BRAIN TH..th...

Medicine Man. For some reason that is one of the most re-watchable movies I have.
