Favorite would be DR. STRANGELOVE. The others that I like are:

PATHS OF GLORY
THE SHINING
CLOCKWORK ORANGE
BARRY LYNDON
2001 SPACE ODDYSEY
FULL METAL JACKET

Haven't seen

EYES WIDE SHUT
THE KILLING

Amazing the range of films he has done from Space, War, Nepoleonic, Vietnam, Horror, and WWI

.Did he make a movie that wasn't great?

Spartacus
Now, I actually adore Spartacus.  It's not a Kubrick movie in the strict sense, sure, but it by no means is a bad movie IMHO.  A little cheesy, but what epics from that timeframe weren't?

Barring that?  Yup, wait for it--2001.

Floating Cadre (or whatever), I haven't seen it, or even heard of it, but that points towards the idea that it is not, indeed, great, eh?

Not sure I have A favorite. I admire his work I've seen and recommend films to people all the time, but I don't have one I love above all the others, but he does have film's I don't like as much: Spartacus and Killer's Kiss.

After I saw The Killing I lost a lot of respect for Pulp Fiction and some more of the respect I had been losing for Reservoir Dogs over the years. Sorry QT, it was done much better by someone else decades earlier.

Paths of Glory, Dr. Strangelove, The Killing, 2001, and Full Metal Jacket all rank higher on my personal list of the ones I've seen, the favorite would have to come from that group. I like ACO but recommend it, or loan it out, to others more than I actually watch all of it. As much as I admire it, it can still be difficult viewing, a sign of it's power still.

I think SPARTACUS is pretty great! And I generally don't like movies set in ancient Rome.

hot NO HE'S NOT, I AM SPARTACUS!!! hot

This is one of my favorite Kirk Douglas films, I like movies set in ancient times that deal with actual people, even if they do sort of bend the truth to sell the movie, or in some cases distort it beyond recognition, but that's Hollywood for you.

I don''t think it will degenerate into "I am Spartacus" thread because everyone here fully knows that I am Spartacus.

Good answer, now back to the Kubrick movies. Thumbup
Spartacus is one of my favorite movies, but I think that Paths of Glory is one of the most thought provoking films ever made.

SPARTACUS is definately a great one. Love all ancient Roman films. (not a big fan of Kirk Douglas, but SPARTACUS is his best).

^It's nice to know Spartacus had his own personal barber and a ample supply of razors and shaving cream. Can't face the roman army ungroomed.

I love ma and pa shops who decide to sell all their VHS.  Just yesterday I picked up The Killing and 2001 both for about 5$ (same place I had bought Barry Lyndon before).  I'm going back soon to get Spartacus.  I couldn't find any copies of any other Kubrick films though.
