Makes you wonder why they've taken so long to create another Duke Nukem game.
I mean, software companies are cranking out games left and right but they can't make one Duke Nukem game?

I used to play Duke Nukem 3D all the time.  I remember it being a pretty fun game.
Hopefully they'll actually make the newest one sometime soon.

Hey Ash, haven't interacted with you for a bit.
Duke 3d was a life changing game for many my age.  When you had played the relatively flat Doom, and only slightly better Quake.  Having a character that could do stuff with the environment and had witty comments, was world shattering.   Not to mention the open level design.   It took until Half Life to get anything even half as enjoyable or immersive.  So I have been waitng to continue the  the great 3d Realms type fun.  Sad really.

I agree with your assement of Duke3d, which used to be my favorite game.  However, I do not think Duke Nukem Forever can live up to the expectations placed on it.  It's been in development for over 10 years!!!  It would have to be light years ahead of everything to live up to that.

Duke's one-liners are the best.
While playing Duke Nukem 3D, I loved to approach a Duke Nukem arcade game and press the "use" button to hear him say, "Don't have time to play with myself."

The pseudo-sequel: Shadow Warrior had some even better ones.  The hero was a ninja type who used all kinds of kungfu and bad movie cliches.  When you drew your sword and cut a guy's head off he would say "There can be only one".

I used to kill hours playing Duke Nukem on a modem death match with a buddy of mine.  I actually named my college radio metal show after a weapon in the game, The Devastator.

Same goes for gaming wtih Shadow Warrior (as mentioned in Ed's post).   Used to love launching the nuke in SW during death match.  3d Realms gave us several good first person shooters.  Wasn't the game "Blood" another one?

I too am fond of the 3D Realms games.  I grew up playing Duke3D and Shadow Warrior.  What I loved about the games was the amount of interactivity with the environment.  Sure now we have realistic psyischs and destructible environments, but it was amazing to be able to pay a stripper in Duke.  That's real interactivity.

Darksider - Actually Blood was a Monolith/GT Interactive game.  Your confusion may be based on the fact that Blood, despite being from another company was based on the Duke3D Engine.  Man, I absolutely loved Blood.  Still one of my favorite shooters of all time.  It's sequel, "The Chosen" wasn't too bad either.

I own Duke 3d and the Manhattan project and they are cool, but I really love the old arcade style Duke Nukem. That and Jill of the Jungle were my favorites back in the old bulletin board days.

You're right about that, I always get them confused.  I liked the flare gun in that game.  Didn't the characters screamed "oooooh it burns" when you hit them with it?

Man I loved Duke and SW was a fun sidestep.  All those games pretty much defined my early years. Fond memories just thinking about it...

I really like this list of what has happened whilst waiting for Forever:  http://news.softpedia.com/news/What-Happened-Since-Duke-Nukem-Forever-Was-Announced-46340.shtml

Funny list.
 Cheers

Duke 3d was great, , but "Redneck Rampage", with it's add-on "Cuss Pack" had some over-the-top quotes. Think of some deliverence-looking hillbilly chasing you yelling "I'm gonna 'F' You!"
