Kind of overkill on the graphics ain't it? The header alone is 118K. Looks nice, but I am afraid to go further due to the load time. If someone has broadband, check out the site, it looks like it could be cool. A lot of work has obviously been put into the home page alone.

Hi, the banner is probably the largest picture on there, aparf from maybe the background. I have purposefully tried to keep the sizes down. These days 118k is surely tiny? Sory to hear it loads slowly. Please pursevere.

81 ^    980674*         Total (^unique objects)

That's a lot of files and if someone has dail-up (snicker ;-)) that's going to run them away. Because at 980,674kB is nearly a meg in size and anyway you slice and dice it, that's a big page.

SO WHAT TO DO????

yowzers, thanks for the information guys! Thumbup I have loaded the pages up on a couple of different computers. It normally takes at most 2 or three seconds. I just now loaded the Empire of Ash page on this computer (it was all prosessed and edited on my work computer) and it loaded in next to no time. I guess I have a fast speed and need to consider other users. As for the review pages, each small screenshot is under 10k and i would be silly to make them smaller, as they are quite integeral to the page, but I think tomorrow I will have a look at making the homepage smaller.

Is there anybody out there who didn't have any loading problems? I seriously thought it was fine. Any comments on the idea/content?

Likely they load fast on yours as the files reside in temp folders and are already loaded in memory (cache) it is best to check it against a computer that as never had those files on it. Otherwise you need to clear all the temp folders to get a true load.

That's why I use load sites to get a truer reading. Not to get into a bunch of techno mumbo jumbo that's the simple version of it.

i had no loading problems.  but i'm on a cable connection.

as far as the actual site is concerned: i really like the layout/design.  i also think that the reviews are very well written, which is something that cannot be said of most review sites these days.  so, kudos!

The pages load pretty quickly for me, probably about 3-4 seconds.  I am on a high speed cable modem.

The reviews are very large, but movie reviews often are (though yours is probably the largest I have seen).  One thing I noticed, you have the groups of small images that are pretty much a cluster of thumbnails.  Each one of those has to be requested and load.  Depending on your host, that can cause unneeded overhead.  Something you might want to do is make those all one file per group - make one image and copy and paste the smaller ones into it.

I like the concept and the reviews.  It was amusing that you even reviewed "Empire of Ash II."  I was just looking that movie over the other day, I think after finding it on the IMDB.  One thing you might want to put in place is an easy alphabetical list of the reviews (the A-Z seems like it is organized differently).  I guess that depends on how many reviews you are going to post.  There is a lot of material in that genre.

If you start trading links, let me know.

Thanks for the positive and constructive comments folks. Just what I was looking for.

Thats a good idea to make the big groups of thumbnails one picture. Most of the pictures are their actual size though, I squeezed them as much as possible so the files are tiny.

I should work on the alphabetising. Because I only have a few reviews so far I have lots of pictures of the films logos. I think I will phase them out as I get more content.

Thanks for the offer of a link swop! I will be sorting out a page for links soon!

Looks good, the design reminds me of when I was first starting out.  You should have plenty of fodder from Italy and the Philipines to keep you busy for years.

It's all good on my cable connection.  I think the reviews are pretty good.  And the caps...love 'em.  In line with what's been said above, I hope you find a format that avoids bandwidth nightmares, because the copious use of images is quite nice and goes a long way to prompting some quasi-lazy souls(like me!) to get up and track down some of these flicks.

EMPIRE OF ASH is a good example, it could be nigh impossible to convey the "glory" of the movie without some of those caps.  Now I'm gonna go check out some details at IMDb with their atrocious new layout.

Anyway, you're in my prestigious bookmarks folder(right below White Hot Milfs...just kidding!)keep up the good work.  Thumbup

ps.  That video game the computer is playing looks to be 'Ikari Warriors',  SNK's "Commando" clone for arcades.(I spent way too much time at the local Fun N' Games during the 80s)

Thanks Soylentgreen. Some good points.

I have actually played Akari Wariorrs on the NES I think and this looks a bit different, although it could be on a more powerful system. Very strange.

I agree that the IMDB update is awful!

I'm always adding stuff on the news page so stick around. Thanks for the bookmark.
