What scares me the most in a lot of things, like movies or video games, are not the jump scares, the monsters, or similiar things.  The thing that scares me the most is the atmosphere or when nothing is really happening. You don't know if there is a monster, you hear a small noise but you don't know where it comes from, you can't see anything in the surroundings but you something is there, or similiar things.  This kind of horror freaks me out the most.

The best example in a game I saw was Silent Hill: Shattered Memories when traveling through the nightmare relms.  The fact you don't know where to go often, the static that gets quieter or louder depending on where a monster is, or the fact you have to have the flashlight off a number of times if you want to get around quietly without trouble.  Those parts scare me a lot.

How about you guys?  Does atmospheric horror scare you and if it does, what kind of examples get you the most?

We live in quite an interesting age. You can tell someone's sexual orientation and level of education from just their interests.
