Last night I watched
"Vampire Effect" (also at NetFlix
here)
This is a fun movie with a lot of Hong King martial arts and wire fu, a romance between a Vampire and the sister of a vampire hunter, and a big mean old vampire trying to take over the world..or at least eth wolr of Vampires.
Reeve is a vampire hunter and Gypsy is his new partner (his partners tend to get killed often). They use Vampire blood to boost their strength and kill vampires with swords and martial arts. His sister is Helen, who has broken up with her boyfriend, runs into Kazaf at a restaurant and they hit it off. Kazaf happens to be a prince of vampires. He happens to be the last of a royal line of vampires who are being killed off by Duke; who wants to kill all the royal line and get their "blood essence" so he can open a book to get some special blood that will allow him to walk in daylight. Jackie Chan makes a cameo as a man about to get married who later shows up as an ambulance driver.
Jackie Chan's scenes are...Jackie Chan. If you know him, you know what to expect, and he pulls it off well. (personally I like him better in his recent Hong kong stuff like this and Gorgeous more than his more recent US stuff..which isn't bad either) Much of the movie, even without him, has that same kinda funny yet serious style.
The description sums up the basic plot. Helen falls for Kazaf. Reeve is hunting vampires with Gypsy. and the Duke is out to kill Kazaf. The rest kinda falls into frantic place as there is not much more 'plotting' but a lot of action.
And therein is the fun of the movie. A pretty good setup, a lot going on. Not too detailed a plot but a lot of fleshing out of the characters within in. A lot of action and chaos with a sense of humour that never gets into outright comedy for comedy's sake. Some really good martial arts.
I enjoyed this a lot; although I'm into both vapire and martial arts movie so it had a lot for me to like
