I am recovering from this last week, but have just posted the weekend update.  This time the new article is an interview with Ian Stuart, who wrote the script for The Pit.  The final product had a few minor changes that dramatically altered the story.

(The review was also revisited and updated.)

Wow!
That was a really good interview.
I've seen The Pit and it was shocking to see how different the screenwriter's ideas were compared to the finished product.

As I watched the movie, I thought that the pit and the creatures that lived in it were real.
This whole business of the pit and the creatures being a figment of Jaime's imagination totally threw me for a loop.

I always seem to remember Jaime getting punched in the face in the beginning of the film.
That scene has always stood out in my mind because it's one of the few punch scenes that looks like it really hurt.

The Pit is also one of the few movies out there in which I share the same first name as the main character.

Great interview!   Thumbup

Mr. Stuart was a fun interview.  It was interesting that only what appear to be minor changes were made to his script, but they were actually massive modifications.  Having the troglodytes be real creatures, vice just fantasy monsters created by Jaime's imagination, is a huge change when you think about it.  Also, making the boy older did alter his relationship with the nanny.  I will credit the director with noticing this, because Jaime does have that one spooky scene where he stares at her body through the backlit nightgown.

Yeah, the movie begins with the bully kid punching Jaime.  It catches you off your guard, because the movie just started and you have no reference for why it happened.  Just "POW!" and unprovoked punch to the face.

Man, The Pit almost sounds like Wes Craven Presents They of yore.  It's a shame it got taken in the direction it did, but that does happen quite often.  Being told his script was "too intellectual" for a horror flick is just absurd and insulting.

Another great interview would be with the actor who played Jaime.
It'd be interesting to hear his thoughts on the film.

By the way, how did you manage to get this interview?

Mr. Stuart had dropped off a comment about the movie some time ago and sent me an email.  I keep info like that in a certain folder, so that I can follow up on them for interviews when the time permits.
