Jason sure has gone through a lot of changes over the years.  All of the Friday the 13th movies are definitely b-flicks, but this one gets bonus cheeze points for being in space and including androids and cyborgs.  Yes yes, this seems more like a Sci-Fi channel TV special, and yes, all the one dimensional characters are named after Everquest characters.  But it's still good cheezy fun...a good "what if" story.  Actually, I predict there may be a few more "what if" movies coming from hollywood after they milk the remake wagon dry, but anyway.

Jason again is played by the hulking Kane Hodder, the only one to repeat the role; Kane plays Jason in this one for the fourth time I believe.  He gets a little bit more sadistic with his kills and gets to do more of it in this one.  Jason X gets a lot of hate from Friday fans and true it is unorthadox and I don't really consider it a Friday film.  But the important thing is there's a lot of stuff going on in this one, which is a change from the standard formula of nothing going on for 70 minutes and then 20 minutes of chasedown.  Heck, we get to see Jason take down a few people right off the bat.

Also, we get another vs fight in this one.  We've already watched Jason vs Tommy 1, and 2, then Jason vs. Carrie, Jason vs. a Clairvoyant (8), Jason vs family member, and later Jason vs Freddy; in this one however, we get to see Jason vs an Android, and he seemingly gets his ass handed to him by K-Em, who's actually dorky enough to be a little bit funny with her goofy expressions and even goofier lines.  I guess K-em would have torn up Freddy in a heartbeat lol.

I think I'm going to go ahead and review this one.  I was going to skip this as I helped a friend collect some data for this one for his first review, but that's been months ago and I haven't seen it yet.  I think I'm going to go ahead and write my own version of a review and see how different ours end up.  Anyway, stay tuned for this review (along with Friday 5).  I have the feeling I might end up just finishing up the rest of the Fridays since I've done so many already.

Anyway, what is your opinion of Jason X?  I think it was ok as long as they just pretend it never happened in continuity - and as we all know, in the Friday universe, continuity is an after thought (except for the required batsh!t endings - those tend to be pretty consistant).

For no reason that I can see, other than it's different from a regular Friday the 13th film, this is one that I really like, probably due to Lexa Doig, and of course Lisa Ryder as the android.

Jason X is still one of my favorites.  It's stupid, and makes little sense but it's fun as hell.  Like you said, as long as this one is left out continuity wise, then I see no harm from it.

I think you hit the nail on the head with saying it looks like a Sci-Fi Channel special.

I was not as impressed with this one as some of you apparently are. Ultimately, though, it was fun and campy, and that is really all that matters in the end. I did buy this on DVD, hoping for more (my mistake), and was disappointed that I wasted the money; perhaps if I had rented it for a buck I may have liked it more.

This one, more than any other with the possible exception of part 8, lacks any characters that you give a damn about and I found myself rooting for Jason. I could not stand the obnoxious b***h of an android, K-Em, and was disappointed when Jason handed her head to her, literally, because she still wouldn't shut up.

The movie starts off in the year 2010, which for being released in 2001 provided them with buffer room to keep the continuity, but since they have not done anything with the franchise, other than Freddy vs Jason, it kind of falls out of the cycle. Being that New Line has shown, however, that they don't care about the continuity, as none of their three releases have followed any continuity, that really is not important as, if they release another, it will most likely have the same continuity problems, but, like their previous releases, it will most likely be better paced and more entertaining as well, which I can live with.

Overall, this was entertaining for its runtime, but it wasn't much more than that. Lacking much of any T&A was really a downer as well.

This is a huge favorite of mine.  I really liked the characters and thought the acting was much better than normal for a slasher, especially Lexa Doig.  The action was pretty much non-stop, with a good variety of situations and even a little bit of humor.  I've probably watched it 6 or 8 times, which I believe is probably more than any other slasher.  This movie, Starship Troopers and Wild Things are probably the only movies I've seen in a decade or so that I really, really liked.

I watched it recently, after somebody (sorry, can't remember who) made a quick recapitulation of the series in this board. I'm not a huge fan of the franchise, but it looked sort of fun, sop I rented it.

And... I'm not impressed. To be fair, I enjoyed very much the first scenes, which are campy but fun at the same time. However, as things progressed I found it more and more enervating. What's with that guy trying to make a profit on Jason? Did they import it drom "Aliens"? And the videogame scene? I would have liked it better if they had bothered to flesh out the characters victims a bit more, but I even had problems telling them apart.

And nudity, the movie needed more nudity.

I saw this flick in the theater.  There's a scene in the 3rd act in which a character who is about to get sucked out through a whole in the ship shouts "THIS SUCKS ON SO MANY LEVELS!"

I then shouted out "I AGREE!"

I've been meaning to get around to this. Criter IV short of worked when it was moved to space, since it had previously been hinted that there were advanced populations.

In a small way, I wasn't a regular viewer, but I did catch enough episodes to enjoy the show and the characters. One of my favorite moments occurs during a discussion of possible options to solve a problem:
Romie " I say we just go in and destroy them."
Hunt   " Spoken like a true warship."
It may have been someone other than Capt. Hunt who said that, but it's still one of my favorite lines.

I think once New Line bought the rights to the Jason character, they stopped calling them Friday the 13th, which is just as well because after the first one, I don't remember if any of the movies actually fell on Friday the 13th (although I'm sure one of them had to have been on that date), especially since quite a few of them happened over a weekend or over a few days.  Anyway, I think Jason Goes to Hell (9) would actually be Jason I, but then maybe there are going to be 8 episodes between that and Jason X hehe j/k.

But yeah there were some really cringe-inducing moments in this flick.  The Azreal character (unfortunate Archdevil name used on a s**tty character) just plain hurt my face with the amount of cringing.  The Sarge said some stuff that both hurt and cracked me up at the same time: paraphrased, "you think one poke in the ribs is enough to take this old guy down (Jason stabs him through the  gut a second time) ..."uh  that outta do it" omg ...but I was surprised that the sarge didn't actually die.

The whole K-em Jason fight was kinda funny though ...those expressions she kept making and the goofy stuff she said - you could really tell she was having a good time playing the role at least.  But, I did like the references to the older unclassics - the VR simulation of Crystal Lake 1980 was pretty damned funny.  The sleeping bag death was a great reference to Part VII and a great kill too.  I guess they scrapped the idea to have Jason's mom show up in the VR sequence -that would have been the icing on a bad piece of cake.

And of course, this one has a batsh!t ending just the same as most of the rest of the Jason movies, but I'll have to save something for the review I suppose.

I thought that was hilarious. It showed both a sense of humor and was rather inline with Kane Hodder's more sadistic portrayal of Jason. Jason is more than willing to comply with a request. TeddyR

Sarge still being alive and showing up in a scene to distract Jason all of a sudden was right out of part 3; when the biker dude we all thought Jason had killed suddenly bursts onto the scene to distract Jason. Sarge fared much better than the biker dude.

I LOOOVE Jason X. I think it's a hoot!

Friday the 13th was always just about having fun, anyway. If a guy can get brought back from the dead by a bolt of lightning and fight against a psychic girl, I'd say it's cool for him to get frozen and go into the future.

Jus tlike everyone else seems to think, It'd be a bit wierd if they called it "Friday the 13th Part #" because it just does not work as a sequel, but as a spinoff starring Jason, It's awesome.

Quote

The 6th one, "Jason Lives" is. That's why he just HAPPENED to get hit by the lightning and reanimated. They mention the date being Friday the 13th a number of times in the film. ;)
