Sent an invite after reading this. Reading Ash's posts about MySpace and seeing that folks I know in real life have pages convinced me to give it a shot. I need to jazz up the look and graphics of mine for sure.

I used PZAM to create my own backround, using my own picture( the Shock Monster mask). You can use yer own pic,and tile it,or whatever...kinda neat.

I got one from a Film company called KILLING JOKE PRODUCTIONS,which I checked out...it seems they do oddball underground stuff, including a documentary called SNUFF, which, according to the trailer, was to be a short doc on the allged reality or not of snuff films. They put an ad in a trade paper for people intersted in helping with research, and got  a possible snuff film in the mail...which kinda scared the sh!t outta them....creepy looking stuff.

I also got a friend request from them.
I briefly looked at their page and it didn't seem all that creepy to me.
Trust me, their page is tame compared to some of the sick & twisted ones I've seen.   Buggedout

And Yaddo...Pimp Myspace stinks.   Thumbdown
I've tried 3-4 other editors and the one I posted is by far the best.
(my opinion of course)

Hi Susan. I'm Shadow.

I am relatively new here. I've latched onto this place like an infectious disease. Nice to meet ya.  Smile

Glad to have you on the friends list Susan!

The best thing about Myspace so far for me has been the ability to get in touch with some really great people.  I've had conversations with James Gunn (Slither, Tromeo And Juliet, The Specials), Cory McAbee (The American Astronaut, The Billy Nayer Show), Leif Jonker (Director of "Darkness") and Gary Miller (Lead actor in Jonker's Darkness).

It's amazing just how kind each of these people have been.  Especially Gunn, Jonker and Miller who all thanked me for reviews I did of their films.  The site has made it easy for people like me to get in touch with those out there making the films, and it's really amazing.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in adding me, here's my page:

I recommend using this Myspace Editor
It's what I use to create my pages.

Register for a free account there and you can create all the layouts you want and save them right there on the site.   Thumbup

I tinkered with editing mine but two things were the driving force in the ultimate result.
A. I have dialup. It takes long enough to load most pages (like..minutes long)
B. I like to keep it simple. Sometimes when someones background is too crazy it's hard to read the text.

It's not quite as fun as blogger but i guess it has it's purpose.

Only about 50% of the world population. 30+% of the population of the United States lives in areas without standard access to broadband, other than overpriced wireless service or other specialty services for rural areas and limited access at that. There are, of course, lots of people in this country who have to go with what they can afford. Not everyone can afford to live in the cushy part of town, can opt for broadband and the nicer things in life over making certain their kids are fed, or win a sweepstakes contest.

Another dial-up user here, I've mentioned it before, but my only other option out here is overpriced Comcast cable modem. Damn BellSouth/AT&T won't run fiber optic line a half mile of a main road yet to branch out. Plus I hate being able to relate to the lame and unfunny dial-up jokes in Mallard Fillmore.

I can't even listen to the music on my own MySpace page. I like seeing what people listen to and what's available on there, but what's the point in second and half second increments as a song loads.

I do want better visuals than the standard layout. Let's see what kind of mess I can make out of it.

Myspace is a good place to keep check on some bands you're a fan of, especially if they're unsigned.  I keep an eye on a few bands I like just to see when they may happen to be in town etc, plus some of my friends have some reasonable 'sites'.  One was full of the brightest, most visually incredible pictures, just to make your eyes hurt.  It would be annoying if it wasn't done on purpose...

I've basically just got a myspace so I can check these things, rather than create my own special, personal space.  I have been too busy lately to contribute to my own blog, so I figure adding myspace to the mix is just a waste of my time, as good as some parts of it are.  Stupid life getting in the way...

Maybe one day I'll actually spruce it up a bit, but that's not a very high priority to me.

But hey, if you're interested:

I am also on dial up at  home, because I choose to live in the country.

Yaddo - what I do is hit the PAUSE on the music on MYSPACE so it will load. Then after a few minutes i'll play it. Otherwise it just keeps freezing.

Ash - I know this may come as a shock but I choose to be on dialup. I can afford high speed, the question is do I wanna pay for it? Hell no. Most of the prices around here are just ridiculous for internet access. You'd be suprised what you can get used to. I'm debating on getting a wireless router however, with luck I might have a few neighbors I can piggy back on. The verizon guys just laid down fiber optic and have been pushing it hard, knocking on my door constantly. Finally the guy was asking all these questiosn about what i pay now to show how their deal is better. I told him I get internet for free...beat that...lol  (perks of having worked for compuserve years ago is that some of the corporate accounts seem to have got "lost in the shuffle" when they started sending all the jobs to India)

I also don't have cable. I've also sat down and estimated over the years how much money i've saved in not having these things. I don't regret the cable option, whenever I go to my parents house they have 900 freaking channels. Half of them don't work and the other half just play crap...i can NEVER find anything to watch. When you have 5 channels you can find plenty, plus all that extra money i might have been putting into cable i've used to build on my dvd collection.  Thumbup

Incidentally I also own a trackphone, pay as you go. I just refuse to give in to the consumerist attitude so many of the companies are brainwashing young people to think, that they have to have and buy everything. i guess I figure i work realy hard for my money and i hate to just keep giving it to verizon..lol god knows enough of it is going to my electric company  Buggedout

Susan, We have the wireless at our house it's just $19.99 a month, it's through Verizon. If they're having some kind of promotion, say for $14.99 a month, they lower ours to $14.99 until it's over then they go back to the $19.99. We haven't had any problems with it......yet.
