My intent is to upgrade the forum to the newest version in the very near future.  Pending other commitments, I will do the upgrade the night of Sunday, 29 April 2007.  I will stop the forum, create a full backup, and then attempt the upgrade.

The upgrade is a big one.  My intent is to make it as painless as possible, but there may be some issues that will require me to troubleshoot them.  One concern is that the CAPTCHA system may not work with the newest version of the forum software.  If that is the case, I will have to require registration for guests to post.  The current system is also very good at denying spambots that try to register, so we may experience problems with that.

Obviously, I did not complete the upgrade last night.  My goal will be to conduct this tonight, the 30th of April.  Same frame for time.

EDIT:  Actually, if the opportunity presents itself today, I am going to try to do this at the earliest time possible.

My intent is to stop the forum at about 10:30 pm EST, backup the database, and attempt the upgrade.  If I have to guess, a trouble-free upgrade will take me about an hour.  Any problems will definitely prolong the length of time required.

Forum upgrade is now complete.  I am not seeing any errors and the system appears good.  I have done testing with a regular user account and a guest account.  Please let me know if you encounter any problems.

A major thing I am concerned about is guest posting.  The upgrade has a less robust CAPTCHA system to deny spambots.  If we have a problem, I will disable guest posting.

Is it possible related to the upgrade that I cannot send a PM.

When I attempted to REPLY to a PM sent by another user, I got an error that said in effect "you did not type the correct letters" (like a captcha).  But there was no capcha and no place to type any letters.

I am trying to get the advanced visual identification to work, but it did not appear to modify the PM template.  I can turn it off if needed, but would rather get it working again.  It gives us protection from someone signing up, then going nuts with porn PMs.

Working on this, the last issue, right now. I will not go to bed until we have a working solution, even if that is simply turning off CAPTCHA for PMs (which is not a terrible solution - maybe the better one if everyone thinks so).

I send a lot of PM's here and I have wondered why there were CAPTCHA's for registered board members for that particular function.
I'm all for turning it off for PM's.
