Woohoo, I got Prophecy (the mutated bear one) off Amazon.com. It should arrive in the mail soon.

Went cheap movie crazy last week.

$5 each from Movie Gallery:
Grizzly Man
Stander
Empire of the Wolves
Bright Young Things

Bought used at a local music store:
Inferno - The Argento flick, people like this?

A buck at Dollar Tree:
The Magic Sword/King Arthur
Desert Command/The Steel Claw
The Adventures of Dr. Fu Manchu
- 4 episodes of a very cheap TV series from the 50s. Weirdly appealing in its own way, not interesting (except for his female cohort, don't think she's his daughter in these) or exciting but worth a look.

It's the sort of sequel to Suspiria.

It's like that film , with even less plot coherency (if that's possible).

A beautiful film to look at.  Keith Emerson did the music instead of Goblin.

As a once a future prog-rock fan, Emerson doing the music should appeal to me, but after seeing part of the film it doesn't. Emerson's musical score isn't as distracting as the one he did for Nighthawks, but I still didn't care for what I heard.

I seem to have bad luck or poor choices of Argento flicks to work with. I've have little chance to see his best regarded stuff.

Is there finally an Attack of the Super Monsters DVD or is that a VHS? Also, the Dollman/Demonic Toys set is a treat, though if they really wanted to make it a complete set they could've included Bad Channels in there too, heh heh.

It is a DVD (I already have the VHS).  Jordan had posted the great news in this thread:

http://www.badmovies.org/forum/index.php/topic,114219.0.html

Another of my recent acquisitions is the Full Moon Classics Vol 1, which does have "Bad Channels" in there.  That finally replaced my ages old LD of the film.  I do see what you mean, with the strange tie-in that they made between Dollman and the one girl who is left miniaturized.

I so want that Jodorowsky Boxed Set.

And I backpedal on my buy fewer DVDs plan, I picked up The Venture Borthers Season Two the other day. I watched the first two episodes, well worth the wait. I laughed and laughed, and thought I was going to hurt myself when the Monarch's two henchmen were singing Holst's "Mars, the Bringer of War" as they met up. That show does a perfect job of satirizing genre shows, movies, comics, and fanboys. When a show can have you in stiches and saying "Ouch! That hits close to home." at the same time that's great writing.

Dear Andrew --
Re. The Jodoworsky Box-Set --
May we expect a Full-Andrew review of said contents, pretty please?
* * *
Also, "Creature Comforts" -- This isn't Aardman Animation, is it?  My local TV station is playing ads for a "new" Creature Comforts series coming soon . . . So, this "new" American program is just our co-opting of BBC/Aardman, or what are you referring to?

I have been waiting to review "El Topo" ever since Joe Bannerman first showed it to me.  That must have been around 2001.  In any case, a big reason that I bought the set is to write a review for that movie.

Per everything I know, the "Creature Comforts" DVDs are the original episodes.  I wouldn't have purchased them otherwise.

Pilger - Primal Fear, awesome movie. Edward F'ing Norton!
Scott - Doom, fun actioner. It's to the Rock what Assault on Dome Four is to Bruce Campbell: a chance for a guy who loves to play the villain having complete fun with it.

I gotta get me some of this $3.99 action...
