Near Dark - Lance Henricksen and Bill Paxton.  Excellent vampire movie

Dog Soldiers - I'm not a huge fan of werewolf movies, but this one rocks.

Hercules Returns - hilarious Aussie spoof about a down on his luck movie advertising guy who leaves his soul sucking corporate job to run an old movie theatre.  He decides to start showing old movies and there's a big celebrity encrusted opening night party where they will be showing Hercules as the feature.  Trouble is, his bastard ex boss switched movies and they got the Italian version instead.  Much hilarity ensues as the guy and his friends decided to dub all the voices themselves.  A whole new take on 1950s muscleman films.

Poltergeist - Might be an oldie, but the scariness factor still holds up.

Red Dwarf Season 5 - A classic and proof positive that the British do humour better than anyone

Shrek 1 - One of my faves with one liners galore.

After a particularly good review over at 3beertheater.com, I relented and got me a copy of Cannibal Holocaust (the EC version, WS, with an interview with Ruggero Deodato hisself).  Brutal but fascinating, and I had no idea that R. Bolla was such leading man material in Europe!

On another of my movie-buying binges:

...a gift from someone who just watched this and doesn't want it anymore...

...and to top it all off I found THIS beauty at FYE.com, my new favorite place to shop online:

The special edition 2-disc pack and all, it was originally $25...I got it used for $7 (plus shipping but still...not $25).

I shall now do my happy dance...la la la la laaaa....

Scanners is great I saw it when it first came out and them special effects are fantastic, cutting edge for it's day. I haven't seen it in years, this is one of David Cronenberg classics. A must see film.

Ordered FRIGHT SHOW on VHS. I thought for sure that would be unavailable, turned out there were 6 copies left! Pretty good considering the availability of Spookies, I guess not as many people have been looking for Fright Show.

Picked up The Frighteners Director's Cut and DARK HARVEST 2 (THE MAIZE: THE MOVIE) for some credit I got at the local used book shop.

Recently picked up Night Fright and Devil's Partner. Who knew Shop Rite could hide such things. Bless you, Alpha Video Classics. Night Fright was typical fare with one of my favorite classic monster types [accidental space mutant] and the art on the cover was very honest. However, Devil's Partner had me at first glance.

Look at this box art!
