Bloody School Girls Triple Feature (Girls Nite Out/One Dark Night/Blood Sisters)

Now you went and got me to order that too  TeddyR

I must warn you that "One Dark Night" does NOT have the same aspect ratio it did at the theaters. I saw it at the theaters and there was a clearly visible boom mike in one scene and, in a scene where Meg Tilly is "floating", the little "truck" she was standing on was clearly visible.  I watched those scenes on this DVD, praying those shots would be left in, but they were cropped out, though you can still see the shadow of the boom mike in the one scene. I tried to write to Media Blasters to complain, but they ignored me.  But this comes from the company who ruined the transfer of "Warlock Moon" by letting a glitch lop out about 5 minutes of the movie but they would not acknowledge it and would not offer a corrected copy to be released. Still, they make sure some fun movies get released, so I can't be utterly hard on them.

Still, there is the issue of them releasing "The Being," which is one of the WORST pieces of crap ever committed to film and/or DVD, but they aren't responsible for Bill Osco's shortcomings.

Sounds like the theater had the film framed incorrectly.  A number of films are shot with an open matte and certain parts of the image are supposed to be cropped when projected.  When I was screening Signs it jumped out of frame after a bad splice and the guy that re-framed it did so too low and boom mics were visible the rest of the time.

You may have a point there, but, sadly, those boo-boos were the only things that made that movie entertaining.  And the projectionist would have had to re-framed it too low at one point and too high at another.  Personally, I think it was just a low-budget film that left some mistakes in. When they released the Joe Don Baker "Walking Tall" on DVD, you could still clearly see the boom mike in a number of shots. I think they fiddled with this because the filmmakers were willing to do a bunch of extras for a two-disc release, and they just didn't want these guys looking like shmoos.

Ah, well, such is life.

And why depend on projectionists to cover Hollywood's inability to release a polished product?  Seems like they are asking a heck of a lot, and risking a bad image.

It really shouldn't be much to ask to have a competent projectionist on hand, but unfortunately there are a lot of lazy ones (I've had some experience with building prints and running projectors for a couple of years now, it's not terribly difficult).  The open matte issue seems to only be with films shot in a "flat" format but I don't see why the filmmakers can't just crop the image properly in post-production or during filming, although I don't make movies so I don't really know the methods behind that sort of thing.

But you're probably right about One Dark Night just being a low budget flick with a handful of mistakes.  I've actually really wanted to see it since I first saw a trailer for it.  Seems kind of cheesy but parts of it actually looked creepy!

I recorded that off TV a while back, but I still haven't gotten up the courage to try and watch it.
