Just ordered:

A based-on-a-true-story matricide film directed by Werner Herzog.

What's not to love?  Thumbup

You'll know when you see it.  Wink

Eh, it's OK, just a let down given the talent involved.

I watched Herzog's other recent film THE BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL - NEW ORLEANS OR HOW NICHOLAS CAGE LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE IGUANA (whatever its called) and had a pretty good time of it, mostly watching Cage channel Klaus Kinski - and I think Bela Lugosi from SON OF FRANKENSTEIN.

I also recently saw Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.  My question is, do you think they meant this to be a bad movie?  I mean, it IS a bad movie.  It's so hilariously over the top in every way.  See my full review here:

All bad movie fans who haven't seen this yet really should check it out.  Great fun.

Is it meant to be a "bad" movie?  I don't think so, though there are elements of parody (so if you equate parody with "deliberately bad," you could answer yes).

Meant to be over the top?  Yes.

Should bad movie fans check it out? Yes.

Great fun? Yes.

Yep - Cage's bizarre performance is beyond over-the-top. I love how his accent changes wildly throughout the film. In a Q&A about the film Herzog reveals he gave Cage great leeway to improvise, often leading to the completely real shocked reactions from his costars.

For example - the scene where he threatens the old woman and her nurse was suppose to end when Cage reconnected the oxygen tube. But an inspired Cage went off script and pulled his gun again and delivered the rant about how she was sucking up her kid's inheritance, and then put the gun to their heads while screaming "I HATE YOU! I SHOULD BLOW YOUR F@(&ING HEADS OFF!!!".

I'm surprised Cage didn't start shouting "I VANT MIEN OPERA HAUS! I VANT MIEN OPERA HAUS!" like Kinski in FITZCARRALDO.

Believe it or not, these two scenes are supposed to be from the same movie:
