FIVE SAVAGE MEN (1970) a.k.a The Animals - This was a brutal Western just as the name implies. Keenan Wynn is the top bad guy who was being transported by stagecoach to prison. There are two ladies on the coach while his gang rescues him and Wynn kills all the passengers of the coach in a real heartless way except the pretty young lady who he rapes and then the gang have their turn. After they leave her for dead an Apache rescues her and brings her back to health and teaches her to ride and shoot. They go out and get revenge on the five outlaws killing them one at a time. When they finally catch up with the ring leader she really fixes him. The whole film ends sadly though and is as violent as
CUT-THOATS NINE (1972)and is the female Wester revenge predecessor
HANNIE CAULDER (1971). The Apache outfits look cheap and the hero doesn't look Apache. The music was ok, but it didn't really fit this film. There is one funny moment though when the posse from Pheonix and the other from Tuscon have a shootout thinking each are outlaws.
(6 out of 10 Stars) Could have been better. Western completest will find it interesting.
