The music to TAXI DRIVER is haunting.

It IS sleazy NY in the 70's-I lived there then-

I own that soundtrack on CD... listening now.  I love it.  
BERNARD HERRMANN finished the score for TAXI DRIVER on Christmas Eve 1975, went home, and died.

This has got to be one of my favorites ever!
Not just because its the Box Tops-who I loved even as a kid on the radio-but now that I ssen this clip in 2005-I like them even more-
they basically were saying "f**k you" to what we now call karoke kinda TV s**t.
