I remember this band well. They hit right when I was buying records - but the only
VAN HALEN record I had on vinyl was
1984. I was phasing out of buying sh!t like
WINGS,
ELTON JOHN,
EAGLES,
FLEETWOOD MAC and buying Punk, New Wave, and always classic '60s Rock. I really enjoy listening to the
DAVID LEE ROTH era. I like the first and sixth albums best. Their best is undoubtedly
1984, but I listen to the first a lot. These days.
Me love Pop Rock mixed with Metal.
VAN HALEN JOHN LENNON Some Time in New York City This was the record all us rubes avoided, even if we were buying
JOHN LENNON records (I was). It does kind of stink.
I like it.
Okay I get it now.
YOKO. Oh no. Now I get why they always said that. Another good to okay song with
YOKO "singing"? And I
LIKE non-singers singing. There's a very tasty "
Saturday Night Live" kind of sax on here...
still there's that
YOKO thing in your face for two long tracks right after opener when
LENNON sings that
interesting song "
Woman is the...of the World".
Oh. Then
JOHN sings a song mentioning
YOKO by name right away.
No. Then she's obviously on the background vocals. Oh
JOHN, this album could have been great.
JOHN writing preachy lyrics he might have gotten away with (being right) but he has Ms.
ONO sing a duet. Like they sing "I wish I was dead".
LENNON took a really big chance with this record... some of it is great. He just didn't understand that there was a reason people wanted to hear
his voice.
Then, there is MORE of SHE...
I wish it was
URSULA ANDRESS. Anybody else.
I'm listening and advising.
There are some cool songs on here. And a LOT of
YOKO. Oh. Too much. A little bit 'o'
YOKO might have worked. She's scary, edgy and kind of horrible. Even I am getting worn out. There's some really good playing...
