I don't suppose any of you ever seen that soapy film called Steel Magnolias?  I'm ashamed to admit it, but I have seen that film one day when taking a girl out on a date.  I had expected to sleep through most of the film, but it was interesting enough to keep me awake through most of it.
But one part of the film leaves me with a lot of questions.  One of the characters in the film is diabetic.  She has diabetes.  Its clear she is a type 1 juvenile diabetic rather than a type 2 adult diabetic.  You can clearly tell them apart.  The part that bothers me was her death.  Now the movie doesn't make clear what killed her.  But it made it clear that her death was caused by her diabetes.  Now diabetes can kill you in many ways.  Not just hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia (extreme low and extreme high blood sugar levels) kidney failure, oe infection.  Can anyone answer this for me?

Babe, I'm leaving.  I must be on my way.  The time is drawing near.  The train is going.  I see it in your eyes.  The love beneath your tears.  And I'll be lonely without you.  And I'll need your love to see me through.  So please me.  My heart is your hands.  And I'll be missing you...

It was kidney failure.  My dad went the same way.

(Has had to sit through this movie more than once when she was living at home with her mother.)
