No matter how mediocre or good the films are, there are some actors which are simply an argument for watching a movie.

Be it Rutger Hauer, who starred in some good and more bad movies , but always was a cause for me to watch. Or Tim Curry who is as much a god to me as Bruce Campbell. Pirates of the Plain is one of my hidden favorites, it' cheap, preachy, intended for children from one of the many Dakotah's but Tim Curry as Jezebel Jack is more pirate than Depp as Sparrow.

So which actor commands your views?

I can't argue with the enormously talented TIM CURRY, one of my favorites . . . RUTGER HAUER, yes, very well selected.  Thinking NIGHTHAWKS or BLADE RUNNER or THE HITCHER or . ..

I'm real fond of RAUL JULIA . . . can't not look at CLAUDE RAINS . . . HUMPHREY BOGART, EDWARD G. ROBINSON  . . .  I just saw CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER on stage (with Brian Dennehy who I'd seen before) in INHERIT THE WIND  and Plummer always rates. . . ALAN RICKMAN  . . . BILL MURRAY (for one thing, I'm one of the growing cult of GROUNDHOG DAY) . . .

BARBARA STANWYCK, BETTE DAVIS, BARBARA HERSHEY, MICHAEL CAINE, JACK NICHOLSON, GENE WILDER  . . .  BORIS KARLOFF . . . LOU COSTELLO . . . DANNY DEVITO . . .

(I'd much rather discuss who doesn't send me . . . Cary Grant, Loretta Young, Ali MacGraw, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Ben Affleck, Robert Taylor, Ginger Rogers . . .  Smile

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Good Choices: After doing some research on Raul Julia I honestly  wondered where Can I get his episodes on Sesame Street and he is the only aspect of street Fighter that brings me watching this movie again.

And Claude Rains did he ever star in a bad movie?

Jeffrey Combs is also a good choice, because I aimed the question more towads the people who bring us through bad movies as well.

.Pam Greir- If she's in the credits somewhere...I will watch it.
.I TOTALLY agree on Jeffery Coombs Thumbup ! Why doesn't this guy get more work?
.Peter Lorre- The man is fascinating to watch. He was always good,in EVERYTHING he did.
.John Carradine- I have sat throughsome truly stupid movies(ie:VAMPIRE HOOKERS),to catch the Thin Monster.I have yet to see FRANKENSTIEN ISLAND,and alot of his Mexican films.
.Roddy McDowall-I always enjoyed watching him act...he always seemed slightly off his rocker...loved him as a school teacher with a gun in CLASS of 1984!
.Karen Black!!!! She should work more!!! I was disapointed that she wasn't in the DEVIL's REJECTS.
.and...of course...the great BELA LUGOSI....LUGOSI LIVES ETERNAL!!!!

I must say you guys are all exhibiting some incredible taste in cinema in this thread!  Jeffrey Combs, Claude Rains, Peter Lorre, Pam Grier... who could argue?  Although Allhallowsday, I must say I enjoy Cary Grant very much, though I can understand your aversion completely so I won't hold it against you.  Wink

- Udo Kier always brings a smile to my face when I see him in the credits
- I actively scout for any of the Dreamlanders.  Mink Stole is by far the most productive, and her credits are always tiny and in terrible films.  Nonetheless, I sat through Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds just to see her.
- Jack Nance was always terrific.
- Steve McQueen qualifies.  I really don't think any of his movies are very good, but he is always great in them.
- I have a strange fascination with Asia Argento stemming from her autobiographical film Scarlett Diva.  Honestly, it is far more meaningful than sex appeal.  I just can't quite articulate it.
- Kate Winslet, on the other hand, is entirely a matter of sex appeal.
- Billy Zane is another actor I shamelessly love... maybe because he reminds me of Cary Grant.
- Antonio Banderas is always so damn charming too
- Steve Buscemi would qualify, except I will not watch Adam Sandler movies.  Other than that, I'll watch anything he's in.
- Christopher Walken!

Egad!  How could I forget?!?!  Unfortunately, Fred Ward was so good in Henry + June that no matter what kind of character he is playing at a given moment, I will always think of him as Henry Miller.

You mean the Fat Boy Slim "Weapon of Choice" video? If so, that thing was epic. The song itself is okay to listen to, but I need to watch the video to enjoy the full experience.  TeddyR

I think I need to narrow mine down to certain time periods within actors' careers.  For example, I'm a huge fan of Robert DeNiro's movies up until around the time he starred in CASINO.  However, these days I don't rush out to see DeNiro flicks like I did in the past because I think the quality of his work (or at least the movies he chooses to be in) has gone downhill.  Likewise for Gene Hackman.  Anyway, here is my list:

* Robert DeNiro (until about the mid-1990s)
* Gene Hackman (until about the mid-1990s)
* Burt Reynolds (until about the early 1980s)
* Cary Grant (until about the mid-1960s . . . especially enjoy his Hitchcock films)
* James Stewart (until about the mid-1960s . . . especially enjoy his Hitchcock films, too)
* Dustin Hoffman
* Al Pacino (until about the mid-1990s)

I probably follow directors more than actors.  For instance, I'll see a Scorsese film regardless of who is in it.
