I wasn't sure whether to put this in the Bad Movies or Good Movies section.
Since so many people have told me they hated this film, I figured it should go here.

I caught this on Spike TV last night.  Hadn't seen it in years.
I remember not caring for it too much back when it first came out but after all these years, it ain't half bad!   Thumbup

I think the story is actually pretty good and the film does have some great moments but I feel the main problem is the casting and the clothes the characters wear.
First off, the movie is set in the "future of 1997" but everyone dresses in these sort of 1940's outfits in certain scenes.  What was up with that?
Bill Paxton turns in a downright awful performance and Maria Conchita Alonso's acting was over the top.

I like Danny Glover in the lead role but I just wished he would've used more of his actual voice when he spoke the lines.
Too often he used that extremely harsh & raspy voice and it got irritating after awhile.
And Gary Busey was great as always as the government guy determined to capture the Predator.

Overall, I give Predator 2 two and a half stars out of 4.

What do you think?

I liked Predator.  My only gripe is that a hardened cop is on the same level as an army assin (Arny).  I would give it 3 out of 4.

I liked it.  I thought unlike other sequels it wasn't a rehash of the orginal.  The urban jungle of the ghetto was a great idea and pretty well done.  We got a deeper insight into the aliens culture and values.  The action was pretty good too.

Saw this one the theater. I remember thinking that moving the action from the literal jungle to the urban jungle seemed a logical progression. Overall I really liked it, especially King Willie! For days after watching this movie I'll go around quoting him in a bad Jamaican accent. I was always disappointed that a Predator 3 never materialized.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

I thought it was pretty good.  I enjoyed getting more Predator action.  Shame that AVP just took the basic plot for this one and added Aliens to the mix, what a waste...

But yeah, sure it had it's bad moments, but as a Sequel I always thought it was underrated.  Sure it's no Aliens compared to Alien, but it, in my mind at least, rates only a little below the first one, which is good enough in my book.

This wasn't a bad flick.  If it had been a solo deal, and we'd never had the awesome first Predator to judge it by, there wouldn't be so many people who disliked it.

The main problem with it is that story wise, it just didn't add anything to what we learned from the first movie, except that the hunter wouldn't kill pregnant females.  But it wasn't a bad film at all.

I liked it for the most part. I used to watch all the time as a kid as it was a staple of TV movies. Don't understand all the hate for it though.  Not as good as the first one but still a solid sequel.

I was always disappointed that a Predator 3 never materialized.

That's because Predator  2 bombed so awfully bad and the critics ravaged it so much that Fox never went forth with part 3.

I've always hated Predator 2.  While you get to see more Predator stuff going on in the film, it just never worked for me.

I've always liked Predator 2.  It's no Predator, but I consider the original to be the damn near perfect action film.

Granted, it's flawed.  The casting of Danny Glover never seems to quite work, and it has its goofy bits.  Still, the alien in Los Angeles in the near future was a great setting choice.

The sequel seems to take a lot of its cues from the first Predator comic series released by Dark Horse, which I remember as being quite a good read.  Similar story arc, and superior to the movie.  Don't know if you can still find it.  The character, replaced by Danny Glover in the movie, is Dutch's brother, serving on the LAPD.

Still, the finest movie featuring the Predator race (outside the original) is Batman: Dead End.

It wasn't as good or solid as the first but still a good watch. Most importantly they gave the alien an upgraded arsenal that has became the norm for them. Net gun, spear, needle rifle, boomerang disc. It's Christmas.

Loved this one when it came out in VHS, I rented it a few times when I and my friends wanted some action. Never understood the negative reviews, although after several viewings the "bad movie" aspects become more visible, such as the vodoo subplot.

I still like it a lot, the action is well staged (one of my favourite bits is the opening shootout between gangs) and it moves at a breakneck speed, specially if you compare it with the first in the series. and you gotta love Gary Busey's role.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

I agree.  I have good memories about this movie.  It was a fast-paced film, and I thought Danny Glover made a good sort of "everyman" hero, constantly muttering to himself as he fought with something that even he believed was way out of his league.

I must pick that one up.
