Every weekend I wake up with my son, put on the Disney Channel and he watches this show called Little Einsteins.  At base level its a cute idea.  These little kids use classical music pieces to solve problems within the show.  I enjoy the occasional classical music piece.  Still........they repeat bits and pieces of the classical music piece over and over and over again without really playing the whole thing.  When you're listening to it, its almost maddening.  Anyone watch this show or have another example of what I'm talking about?

Gawd, yes! MTV...my  son likes lotsa "gangsta" rap. Now,This kinda stuff has an audiance, and I would like to believe it  is all bullsh!t in the name of entertainment...but when people Ie: Little Biggie,2-Pac: start dying ,and kids think this is a cool way to live...I worry. I say this because ,well....he's my son!  Now I know that the music doesn't create this train of thought ....but it does nuture the seed that was already there...blahblahblah...but it worrys me any way!! I kow...music ...(along with drugs,f*cked up past)....drove me to do some insane things. I would get drunk...listen to BLACK FLAG...and me and my brother had totally trashed my apartment.  ( Note: this was back in the 80's...long before I had kids and a wife and a life.)
ON the lighter side, my son Eddie, the youngest (!3 come Sunday!) has a habit of rewatching movies over...and over... and over...! Thankfully,it's mostly Clint Eastwood spagetti  westerns, Monty Python, and goofy ass comedys,...and CARTOONS! ANY Cartoon! If its animated...he will watch it! He also has about every TOHO flik ever made. ( I think I've created a monster...and it will destroy me!) BounceGiggle

I'm a big fan of the OFF button on my TV.  The thing stays off most of the time the children are awake unless we are watching

a movie
a race (Nascar or horses)
baseball (usually only the post season), sometimes football, rarely NCAA basketball
special stuff (Charlie Brown Christmas, the dog show on Thanksgiving, etc).

For a while, my daughter (almost 5 now) was a big fan of the afternoon PBS Kids shows - Postcards from Buster, CyberChase, Arthur and Maya and Miguel.  These shows were not too bad overall.  Of these, MY favorite (as a parent) was Arthur.  When she got to where she EXPECTED to watch them, we no longer did.

I guess we're kinda strict, but we both prefer our children to do crafts, color, work puzzles, read, harass me or each other, etc.  Until it broke, my daughter used my old digital camera to just wander around the house taking pictures-tons of pictures of the walls, the carpet, etc.  She had a ball.  They also like to play in the yard, looking for caterpillars, ladybugs, digging holes, picking weeds flowers, etc.  My daughter also lives to help me work on one of the boats or just in the shop on some project and this year, she and her Mom have planted a small garden.  I don't mean to sound sanctimonious, but we've grown to hate TV (except for a tool to watch movies).

We don't have cable or satellite and that helps.  There is not as much to choose from and fewer options from the boob tube means easier to select options from other activities.

Once a year, we drive from SC to Colorado and we also take several other longish trips.  Everyone always says things like "Do you have a DVD player in the car for the children?  It's a must."

We don't.  We refuse.  In many ways, I guess we take the harder path, but sometimes the road less traveled is more rewarding.

My kids love Cyberchase, that's actually a very worthwhile show.

I wish to God I'd never let mine watch Pokemon, because now they are total addicts.  I've brought in some better anime, like Spirited Away hoping they'll realize there's better stuff out there, but they keep begging for more.

I have MTV and VH-1 blocked off our cable box.  I also don't allow the teeny-bopper shows on Disney and Nickelodeon, like Hannah Montana and the like.  My girls like the music, but they know the shows are off limits.

Other than that, my kids were both hooked on the whole Land Before Time series, but now they've forgotten about them.  Those movies made me want to hurl, and the My Little Pony stuff is even worse.

Haha, my daughter has a couple (given to us by my sister, bless her) that cause that reaction in me.  They are "The Wubbulous World of Doctor Seuss" and "Hello Kitty."  Oh.  My.  Word.

Fortunately, I keep them locked up and they only come out when I am in a VERY generous mood (and so tired I can easily nap through them).

But hey, she also loves THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA and her interest in dinosaurs grew exponentially after watching DINOSAURUS!

Hehe.

To ease RCMerchant's mind, or, maybe not. There is a front page article in "USA Today," the issue for Friday, June 15, saying that gangsta rap is out. Even some of the rappers are saying that rap music is becoming passe. What is in, is "High School Musical." Whether that is an improvement, I don't know.

Back in the day, I had the misfortune of my little brother watching Power Rangers.  It was so bad that, as kids do, started acted like those characters; jumping all over the place like suger eating devils
