THE RETURN OF FRANK JAMES (1940)
- The sequel of JESSE JAMES (1939),
but this time directed by Fritz Lang in his first Western and starring Henry Fonda as Frank James again. This film isn't as interesting as JESSE JAMES (1939), but still worth a look as it's shot in Technicolor and Henry Fonda is always a great actor. There is one location shot that I liked a lot and that was again in the Alabama Hills area of Lone Pine, California were many Westerns were filmed. The story here isn't as interesting and the court room trial is quite lengthy. Many of the actors return for this film except Randolf Scott and Tyrone Power thought they do show Jesse James death again at the beginning of the picture using the footage from JESSE JAMES (1939)
(7 out of 10 Stars) It's a nice old studio production.
Fritz Lang only did one more Western later called RANCHO NOTORIOUS (1952)
starring Marlene Dietrich which is a film I liked a lot.
