Not so much b-movies, but independent films:

Go Inside the Mind of One of America’s Most Provocative Writers
Paul Bowles: The Complete Outsider

Filmed in Morocco and featuring exclusive interviews with cultural icons such as Allen Ginsberg, Paul Bowles: The Complete Outsider explores the esoteric life of the man who wrote the The Sheltering Sky, one of the most provocative and influential novels of the 20th century.

Bowles led an enigmatic existence in harsh but beautiful Morocco.  He became an icon to the Beat Generation and influenced a generation of artists – from Ginsberg and William Burroughs to David Cronenberg and Bernardo Bertolucci.  The film explores his development as a novelist and composer, his marriage to writer Jane Bowles, and his ambiguous sexuality.

In a series of intimate conversations, Bowles speaks candidly about his writing, his music, his use of drugs and his array of friends – including W.H. Auden, Tennessee Williams, Aaron Copland, Gertrude Stein, and Allen Ginsberg. Interwoven with rare archival footage, photos and interviews, Paul Bowles: The Complete Outsider reveals a man who has always made his own rules.

Paul Bowles: The Complete Outsider will be available on DVD beginning July 24, 2007.

When Hitler’s Army marched into Czechoslovakia, a young Czech army captain joined the Resistance. But he had a secret no one knew...until now.
HOWLING WITH THE ANGELS

In March 1939, Hitler’s army marched into Prague, Czechoslovakia. Jan Bodon, a young, blond-haired, blue-eyed captain in the Czech Army was recruited to join the Nazis. He promptly fled and joined the resistance movement instead, and was later selected to help in the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the notorious “Butcher of Prague.”

In this powerful documentary, director Jean Bodon – Jan’s son – uncovers the truth not only about Jan’s wartime experiences, but also that his father was secretly a Jew in a country which underwent one of the largest extermination campaigns of the war.

Howling with the Angels is not only about Jean’s adventure to retrace his father’s lineage and his forgotten past.  The film also explores the difficulties facing Jewish identity in the twentieth century and the necessity to reclaim and appreciate Jewish roots.  Jean’s struggle to rediscover his father’s past reflects the struggle we all share to look into history in order to find the keys to our own sense of identity.

Howling with the Angels will be available on DVD beginning July 24, 2007.

DVD Bonus Features:  Short Film: My Dear Kassa • Filmmaker Biography • Archival Photo Gallery • Film Notes

WINNER - HUGO AWARD - CHICAGO INT’L FILM FESTIVAL

"Jean Bodon takes viewers on a journey through his family, a journey that ends with a shocking secret and a tale of true heroism. A terrific story that will inspire one and all."
– JOEY KENNEDY, PULITZER PRIZE WINNER, BIRMINGHAM NEWS

"Masterful! Bodon brings us into a world of horror, love, pain and compassion. It is a film of true humanism." – JEAN-CHARLES TACCHELLA, CINEMATHEQUE FRANCAISE

"As enlightening as it is disturbing; it explores the frightening and contradicting ends of the human soul: that dark genocidal impulse and the determination not to be vanquished by it."
– NIYI COKER, JR. , PROFESSOR, UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI

"A valuable Holocaust resource and a powerful example of filmmaking. Bodon skillfully articulates the complex sequence of events following the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia and its tragic consequences for the Jewish population. A testament to heroism and a poignant story of identity lost and rediscovered." – DANIEL A. REICH, CURATOR, ST. LOUIS HOLOCAUST MUSEUM

Jean Bodon is a Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at The University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Dr. Bodon has worked as a feature film director and producer and as a director of documentaries and television commercials. Bodon's works have been shown on HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, The Movie Channel, E!, TLC, Pay-per-view and many other cable systems and networks throughout the world.
