Is it me, or this film going to be a sleeper hit soon?  I mean a lot of cinephiles loved it, the critics hated it, but I think it's going to have a definite cult following.

I thought Cusack, Thornton and all the actors worked great together.  The story and dialogue were great.  A delicate blend of philosophy, crime, and really dark humor.  I read reviews where people thought the film was "mean."  I can't believe the critics trashed this film!

Did anyone else out there enjoy this one a lot?

I have this film on DVD but keep putting off watching it, a habit I've found becoming more and more prevalent lately.  I'm a big fan of Cusack, Thornton, and in some cases Platt, so I have a feeling I'll enjoy it.  I might actually have to open this thing sometime and give it a try.

Thanks for reminding me about it Chopper!

I wasn't too thrilled with it.  I really lliked the entire sequence involving the trunk, but in the end I just wasn't as interested or entertained as I'd liked to have been.

Did most critics really hate it? The ones I remember, not many grnated, kept refering to it as a sleeper film that people should really seek out. They seemed almost personally hurt that it was not doing well, Nick DeGuillio on WGN in particular.

I personally loved it on several levels. As a dark comedy, as a neo-noir, as a downer Christmas film, as a twisted take on buddy films, and as commentary on manhood in marriage and modern life. It even manged to tap into the feelings I've had from years of work third shift during the holidays and going through a severe longlasting depression. While my life didn't resemble the plot of the fim at all, luckily, the drab unhappiness and even anger many of the characters felt in stark contrast to the required cheerfullness of the festive Yuletide season felt very familiar. I can remember many years of considering Christmas a burden to be endured and a sore point as I saw other people in better positions in life and apparently much happier than I was.

The ending even worked for me, I remember a big smile crawling onto my face when Platt pops up from the back seat. I would have felt disgusted if they had used one of the alternate endings on the DVD.

Count me in as a fan who has tried to spread the word about this film.
