I bought NOSFERATU at the flea market yesterday. The only other version I had of it was in a Mill Creek version. This one has David Carridine doing a nice intro....but thev'e added an annoying soundtrack by Type O Negative. The music is ok...but I could've done without Peter-head Steele's drooning over the whole movie! That said...I wonder why  the letters that Hutter wrote magically got translated into English...because this is a German film! very annoying as well! As forthe digital remastering...well...it's not so hot. And the cover art is TERRIBLE. But...it is NOSFERATU!

I have had both versions (my completely original one is missing - I think it was loaned out and never returned) and I liked the version with the Type-O soundtrack to it.  They didn't do a bad job of adding the modern "dark rock" songs.  I do love the original version I had.  Going to have to look that up again.

I have to recommend the Image DVD.  Great film, I also have a strictly black and white video version of it.

I still have to own a complete version of this film, the only one I've ever had (a UK VHS copy) is not only cut but it also has a different soundtrack as well.

I have the Kino DVD and it's probably the best available (and it's not very expensive).  It's 93 minutes and 21 seconds long versus the 80 minute 42 second Image DVD.

Here's a good comparison of the two:

The soundtrack choices are pretty bad, though.  It doesn't have commentary either.  I'd say that for the fanatic they're both worth owning, but I'd pick the Kino first.

Mmm... That Kino DVD sounds like a winner. Thanks for the tip, it must be great to have a copy with tinted images.

I gotta see the whole thing, but I want the orginal.  I've seen Shadow of the Vampire though.  My teacher in 10th grade and I talked about it.  I've only seen bits and pieces of the original Nosferatu, but never the whole thing.

But there was a Nosferatu reference on SpongeBob SquarePants.  Squidward told a scary story to SpongeBob, cause he didn't want to work 24 hours a day.  The events of the story then happened, but all were explained due to a new employee.  Then the lights flickered, but Bob and Squid looked at each other, then looked over, and Nosferatu is standing there playing with the lights.

I was like, "That's totally random.  An 8 year old doesnt' know Nosferatu." Heck, my grandmom didn't get it.

I've been tossing around the idea of doing my own version of a soundtrack for Nosferatu, as a fun little project.  I need to rewatch it and see if I can create something, when I have more time.

Also, Shadow Of A Vampire is one of my favourite films purely based on how well they worked in their story with this film.  I still shout "IRIS IN!" at my friends everynow and then.
