The movie is from, I think, the 80s or maybe the early 90s -- I saw it on cable in the early 90s, anyway, so that's the latest it possibly could have been.

In the scene I remember, a woman is being chased by a tall man (a zombie, I assume) and runs through a cemetery.  The man catches up to the woman and grabs her, so she panics and slugs him in the face and, like a gory House of Wax, his face cracks off and reveals a pulsating, slimy, black mass underneath.

Unfortunately, this is the only scene I remember, but if it sounds familiar I'd be interested in any ideas...  Thanks!

It sounds rather similar to a scene from Return of the Living Dead Part 2. A girl is in the cemetery and getting ready to run from a zombie she sees. When she turns around there is a zombie behind which she proceeds to punch in the face caving the face in. While it's not black slime it is a yellowish goo and also the girl extracts....stuff....from the face when she pulls her hand back.

Not quite sure if it's what you're thinking of but definitely sounds like a possible match.

Well, only one way to find out!  Maybe after fifteen years, my mind has just been playing tricks on me... yellow, black, it's still liquid zombie good.

I'll have to check it out... thanks!

Edit: I just watched a clip on YouTube and, though it's not quite what I'd built it up to be over the years, I think I'm satisfied that this was probably it!  Thanks!

This can be moved to "solved" or just plain trashed -- whatever's in your heart!

I think that Dubal is right. Though it's been a while since I've seen it, I also remember a similar type scene in Return of the living Dead Part 2.

If not that movie, it could've been an Italian Zombie flick called Burial Ground that I think had a scene in it as well.

I don't remember a scene like that in Burial Ground but it has been a few years since I've watched it. Must watch it again...now if only I can be brave enough to put the DVD in my player. ;)

Glad I could help you Pslugworth.

There's also a similar scene in One Dark Night, in which one of the barely-reanimated dead (more like they're being used as battering rams by the won't-stay-dead evil psychic) is a serviceman who apparently had to have his face drastically reconstructed with wax.

If you remember anything about a) an old man with a pointed Van Dyke and lightning coming out of his eyes, b) Adam West, or c) a toothbrush, this is probably the movie.

Sounds like Zombie Nightmare to me.

Now, now.  It's not like Adam West only appeared in one bottom-scraping movie in his career...
