I always look forward to seeing those lit up eyes and teeth heralding a post by Menard: this always cheers me up a bit, no matter what the good doctor has to say and now I see that he is now just registered as a guest?

What's up, come back Doctor, we miss you!  Bluesad

Menard was apparently not happy with the forum in general and not happy with the way I have dealt with two situations that recently arose.  Based on the last messages I received from him, the latter was the major issue.  He deleted his account yesterday.

Bluesad Thanks, Andrew, I will miss the good Doctor.  Bluesad

I just hope that I didn't ever say anything to offend him because he really made me laugh almost all of the time.

I really hope I didn't because I came here on this site to make friends which I feel I have done (plenty!) and to find a home (which I did) so I'm not here to offend anyone at all.  Smile

I hate to hear that . . . Menard was one of those caustic, biting individuals that kept us all on our toes.  Maybe he'll come back at some point.

It's a shame.  Not sure the cause of why he left but I'm one who is sad to see him go.

Then again, I never got on his bad side.   TongueOut

Given Menard's penchant for being somewhat "tenacious", I'm surprised that he just gave up and "quit" as easily as he did.
And especially because of a thread that Wyrewizard wrote!

I admit, I was one of the people who gave him -1 negative karma.
But I wasn't alone.
He went from 111 karma to 103 if I remember correctly.
That means seven other people on this board voted him down as well.

I gave him a negative karma because I felt he was way too hard on Wyrewizard.
In fact, in that particular thread, his behavior was that of a rambunctious and unruly teenager.

Menard literally ran a fellow member off this board.

Like him or not, Wyrewizard didn't deserve the harsh treatment Menard dished out to him and that's why I gave him one negative vote.

Am I glad to see Menard go?
No.
I actually kind of liked him because he's like me, he speaks his mind and offered some genuinely funny moments for all of us here.

Menard is gone. WW never deleted his account-Menard was honest-WW is full of sh1t!
To quote Norman Bates..."We all go a little crazy sometimes...haven't you?"
Menard may have gone crazy...but I believe he cared alot about the good-hearted posters on the board-and rotton trolls are just around to demean and belittle. Menard seemed to (most of the time) have his tounge stuck firmly in cheek. Mebbe I'm just biased. I dunno...it just really bums me out,I guess. (heavy sigh... Bluesad)

Karma,Ash,for your honesty....most people who give negative won't fess up to it.  Thumbup

Apologies for not confessing about giving Dr. Menard 1 point of negative Karma immediately after he called me out, but having just discovered about Menard's angst about 7 posts after he gave the message telling how p**sed he was, I felt it better not to start a huge flamewar over a troll who everyone freely makes fun of and then disappears for months at a time. I didn't know that giving him this 1 point would contribute into such a downward spiral of world-weariness, I suppose I should have known about the guy who makes an entire thread asking for karma, though I previously had thought that giving and taking reputation was the purpose of the harmless and anonymous system.

I post this with little fear, although I know some animosity, along with a load of bad karma that will no doubt knock me down to Wyrewizard's level will follow. I hope that that's where my punishment for contibuting to Menard's suicide will stop. I will not stop posting and accepting my fellow forumers' posts (that is, unless Andrew wants to ban me), and I will continue to anonymously give out good and bad karma towards those messages which enlighten or offend me.

No bad feelings toward Menard personally, for the most part he seemed like a wicked decent guy, but what he had said, then done, showed a lot of what I consider overreacting, immature, and worthy of the "-1" I gave him, and since he apparently got 7 more "-1"s, I'm pretty sure I wasn't alone. Like I said, no hard feelings meant towards him, had he stayed things probably would have calmed down fairly quickly (especially considering his nemesis Wyrewizard left (we hope) right when he did), he would earn his 8 points back in a week or so and things would go on just as if nothing had happened "that awful week ago".

Well, here's another one who is going to miss him. I hope he didn't leave because of anything I said or did. I'll tell you what, if Menard does come back, he can have all my karmas, and I'll take all his karmas, negative and otherwise.

The things I miss while house-sitting and not checking internetty goodness.

This really sucks.  I don't mind saying that I, on at least one occasion, gave Menard a negative karma, but that was more as a joke thing when he was complaining about bad karma, and I always restored it a day or two later.

I agree with what RC just said too. Bye bye karma from me if Menard came back.  He was too much fun to have around.

The thing that probably annoys me most about this WW thing, is that WW's typical modus operandi was to say something controversial, get lambasted for it, then look on in disgust and say 'hey why'd you do that, I was just trying to be friendly.'  Whilst I never really took that bait to heart too much, it did make those of us who are actually nice people continue to give him a chance.  It annoys me that this obvious trouble starter is one of the factors that led to Menard leaving.

That being said, Menard had his rude, abrupt moments, which I think was partly him playing up to his 'bad-boy' stereotype, which I must admit made me fond of his posts.  Holding back was never really his thing I suppose.

With a bit of luck he may return, and not become another 'lost poster' thread.  He certainly has earned his place in this board's history books.  Until then, someone needs to pick up the post of 'quick witted insult flinger' while he's gone.  I'm sure they'll keep the seat warm for him though.

I also knocked Menard a point, for his very last posting in that Wyewizard “My Opinions” thread, though I expect he was gone by then.  Though I agree with Mr.Briggs,Inc in that feedback should be anonymous and posters wishing to advise they’ve left postive or negative should certainly do so.  I felt Menard insulted the board (as if all of us were to blame for…what?  Menard letting Wyrewizard get to him?  For Menard losing two lousy karma points, one probably by the troll?)  Whatever was not public is irrelevant.  I had seen Menard’s sensitivity over an extremely small matter on the SCIFILM.org board (he did not care for the fact that I had quoted only part of a long post) but we had no animosity, and I always appreciated his intelligence, knowledge, helpfulness, and good writing.  When sensible, I always agreed with Menard.  It was Menard who urged some of us former SCIFILMERS to come to BADMOVIES.org.  Even when Menard had insulted me personally here, on this board, I did not knock his karma (my advice to Torgo regarding a potentially serious and certainly uncomfortable problem was proclaimed by Menard as “suckass” or something close.)  I don’t believe in negative feedback on eBay (it’s BS) so I’m not prone to it on BADMOVIES; I do like to post positive karma and I’ve learned that people appreciate knowing where it came from.  It’s fun to get a point and know some person out there approved of something you wrote; I not only gave Menard positive on his birthday (being sentimental) I think I gave him at least a few karma points for doing what he did best: making any point pointed.  Menard added a certain dynamic to this board that will be missed, but also revealed a chink in the armor.
