AFI FEST 2007 PRESENTED BY AUDI

TO HOST FREE HALLOWEEN SCREENING FROM

AFI’s 100 YEARS…100 THRILLS

HOLLYWOOD, CA, August 20, 2007—AFI FEST 2007 presented by Audi announced today an opportunity for movie lovers to participate in the selection of one of AFI’s top ‘heart-pounding’ movies—from AFI’s 100 Years... 100 Thrills—to be screened for free on Halloween (October 31) at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood, California. AFI FEST officially kicks off with its Opening Night Gala on November 1 and runs through November 11.

In 2000, AFI celebrated the adrenaline-inducing impact that a movie can create with AFI’s 100 Years... 100 Thrills—the fourth installment in AFI’s award-winning series of television specials. PSYCHO was voted #1, with JAWS (#2), THE EXORCIST (#3), NORTH BY NORTHWEST (#4), THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (#5), ALIEN (#6), THE BIRDS (#7), THE FRENCH CONNECTION (#8), ROSEMARY’S BABY (#9) and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (#10) rounding out the top 10.
Beginning today, the public will have an opportunity to select a film from AFI’s list of 100 Thrills to be shown on the big screen by registering their choice online at www.AFI.com. Voting will conclude on Friday, September 28. Two tickets will be allotted to each attendee as long as seats are available, on a first-come first-served basis.

“As part of my first year at AFI FEST, presenting a free public screening is one of the new and exciting events we are proud to debut,“ stated Rose Kuo, Artistic Director, AFI FEST.

Regarding the decision to offer the free screening, Lane Kneedler, AFI FEST Senior Programmer said, “With Halloween the day before the festival, we thought of no better way to invite the city of Los Angeles to AFI FEST than with a free public screening of the film of their choice.”

AFI’s 100 Years... 100 Thrills were selected by a blue-ribbon panel of leaders from the film community, including film artists (directors, screenwriters, actors, editors, cinematographers, visual effects artists, stunt men and women and make-up artists), critics and historians. The nominated films crossed many genres, including
Action-Adventure, Silent, Film Noir, Horror, Science Fiction, Suspense, War and Western.

A few interesting facts about AFI’s 100 Years…100 Thrills include:

    * The 100 films span from Harold Lloyd's SAFETY LAST, released in 1923, to 1999's THE MATRIX and THE SIXTH SENSE.
    * Harrison Ford and Claude Rains are the most celebrated leading actors, each starring in 4 films in the top 100. Ford's films are BLADE RUNNER, THE FUGITIVE, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and STAR WARS. Rains stars in THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, NOTORIOUS and CASABLANCA

·      Nine Alfred Hitchcock films made the list, including the film ranked #1, PSYCHO, making him the most represented director. Hitchcock’s frequent cameos technically make him the most represented actor on the list with eight appearances, including every film except DIAL M FOR MURDER, in which he appears in a photograph on the wall.

·      Steven Spielberg directed 6 films on the list, 2 of which placed in the top 10, and he wrote and produced POLTERGEIST. Stanley Kubrick directed 5 of America's most heart-pounding movies.
