Okay, here's how this works... if you haven't got one already, create a playlist with all your music files, set it to shuffle (or random) and hit the forward button ten times, giving you ten different songs.  Then, post the title and artist here, and, if you want, say a little something about the song, why you like it, where you first heard it, anything.

I found this to be a cool way to get to know other people's tastes in music, and share interesting thoughts.

I'll go first!

1. Queen - "Princes of the Universe"

"Here we are
born to be kings
we're the Princes of the Universe."

This is one of my all time FAVORITE songs.  I remember first hearing this song in the movie Highlander (and, later, the series).  It's from the A Kind of Magic album.

2. Evanessence - "Bring Me To Life"

"(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become"

Really great song, don't know what else I can say about it without sounding hokey.

3. The Servant - "Cells (Instrumental)"

This song is probably most well known as being the theme for the movie Sin City.  This is the instrumental version, but I also have (and enjoy) the original version in my playlist.

4. Black Sabbath - "The Mob Rules"

"Close the city and tell the people that something's coming to call
Death and darkness are rushing forward to take a bite from the wall"

This song is from Heavy Metal soundtrack, one of several great tunes from that album.

5. Creed - "My Sacrifice"

Yes, I know, they're a popular band to hate, but I like some of their stuff.

6. Billie Myers - "Kiss The Rain"

Oh, wow, haven't heard this one in awhile.  Interesting little song, however, call me crazy but, I had trouble believing it was being sung by a woman... (shrugs)

7. Roxette - "Almost Unreal"

"Kick off them shoes
and leave those city streets
I do believe, love came our way
and fate did arrange for us meet."

First heard this during the credits of the Super Mario Bros movie.  I like to listen to it when I'm in a mellower mood, although, like all romantic songsm it does sometimes have the tendency to make me depressed.

8. Eminem - "Sing For the Moment"

"They say music can alter moods and talk to you
Well can it load a gun up for you , and cock it too
Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude
Just tell the judge it was my fault and i'll get sued"

Really neat little mix of rap and Areosmyth's "Dream On" tune.  I'm not the biggest fan of Eminem's work, but this song I like.

9. Sammy Hagar - "Heavy Metal"

Huh, ANOTHER song from the Heavy Metal soundtrack.  What are the odds?  (And if you're wondering it's from a list of about 351 songs.  A small collection to most, I'm sure...)

10. Chad Kroeger feat Josey Scott - "Hero"

The theme song to the first Spiderman film.  Good song and it really fits in well with the theme of the movie.

Well, there's my list!

What's yours?

The soundtrack for "Highlander."  You just reminded me how much I love that CD.   Now I'm going to have to go and dig it out.

1.  The Drags- "Conspiracy"   -great lo-fi garage punk band from New Mexico

2.  Ennio Morricone- "La Resa Dei Conti (Seconde Caccia)"  -one of the best tracks from the soundtrack  of one of the greatest Spaghetti Westerns, "The Big Gundown."

3. The Fiends- "No Good"  - cool spooky garage punk with fuzz guitar and organ

4. Dean Carter- "Love's A-Workin"  -Dean Carter's sound was a unique hybrid of rockabilly and 60's garage rock.  Cool stuff!

5. Disprove- "Not What You Said"  -Japanese hardcore in the tradition of the U.K. band Discharge.  Sounds a lot like Discharge's earlier stuff.

6. Crass- "Sheep Farming in the Falklands"  -Crass always had great lyrics, but musically they are kind of hit and miss with me.  This is definitely one of their best.  Hard and abrasive but still melodic, with great vocals from Steve Ignorant and Eve Libertine.

7.  Lunachicks- "Ay Chihuahua"  -one of the best all-girl punk bands of the nineties.  I'm not sure if they are still together.

8.  The Other- "Beware of Ghouls"  -incredible horror-punk anthem from the compilation disc "This is Horrorpunk."  I highly recommend the CD to all the fiends out there.

9.  The Vermin- "Girl Says No"  - Pure unadulterated punk from my favorite local Vegas band.

10.  The Nutley Brass -"Angelf**k"  -lounge instrumental cover of the classic Misfits song.  this really grew on me after the first couple of listens, and it's funny to think that this could be playing in a grocery store or shopping mall and I'd be singing the lyrics to myself.  Only I, and a perhaps another fiend or two, would get the joke.

Here we go.

1. Nose In The Corner by Tight Bros From Way Back When
Somehow the singer/bass player for Karp/Big Business/The Melvins managed to pull a bunch of guys together and turn out one of the most most righteous pure rock and roll bands ever devised.  Tight Bros are nothing but riffs and a lot of yelling.

2. Wells' Fight from Assault On Precinct 13 by John Carpenter
This soundtrack has a great theme running through it, unfortunately it's about as minimalist as Carpenter has ever gotten. It's mostly just a barely audible bass line, the occasional keyboard drone and a drum machine.  In the context of the movie, it's tense as hell.

3. Firearms For All Faiths by Agoraphobic Nosebleed
One of the many frightening "in between" tracks featuring strange samples and a lot of electronic noise before the band launches into another frenzy of 1400bpm grindcore.

4. Ladies by Mantronix
In a sea of black metal, thrash and grindcore I have a small amount of hip-hop and electro.  Mantronix makes me want to lay out cardboard and do some poppin' and lockin' instead of work.

5. Wackity Smackity Doo! by Patton Oswalt
I also like a lot of stand-up comedy and this guy is up there with the best of them in terms of contemporary stand-up.  I cannot possibly recommend his two albums enough.

6. Breakin' Bells by T La Rock
Hey!  Here's some more of that hip hop I was talking about.  Not much to say about it except it was probably recorded in the mid-80s and has that Grandmaster Flash vibe about it.

7. Set To Destruct by Municipal Waste
One of my favorite bands at the moment.  I grew up listening to Suicidal Tendencies, D.R.I. and other thrash bands and these guys managed to distill the best elements of every thrash band ever and put it all into one band.  They're also funny as hell.

8. Devilock by The Misfits
My favorite band of all time.  Not one of their best songs by a longshot but definitely a high point from Earth A.D.

9. Apocalypse Please by Muse
I like this band quite a bit.  There's something unusual, haunting about the music but it still manages to be hard when it needs to be.  For some reason, this song comes up more than any other when I'm randomly playing through the list in iTunes than any other Muse song.  I got hung up on them when I heard Hysteria in the movie High Tension.

10. Inno A Satana by Emperor
My absolute favorite black metal band and album.  In The Nightside Eclipes, unlike other black metal from that period, has actual production values and mixes classical music with the most extreme, confrontational form of music ever made.  It's extremely intense.  I cannot recommend this band enough.

Joe,

A film version of Obsolete?!?!?  It's by far one of my favorite metal albums.  I've never heard that there would be a film version made, but that is a damned good, inspired, idea.  My mind is reeling at the possibilities.
