It blankets multiple trees along 200 yards of trail in a park.  And the fools think that a whole bunch of normal spiders worked together to create the web!

If he is smart, anywhere but Texas.  Spiders never forget.

This is a little geeky  - okay, a lot of geeky - but this sort of stuff interests me, as a spider hobbyist, to no end.  Here's what Texas Entemology has to say. . .

http://www.texasento.net/Social_Spider.htm

Fun stuff.  What interested me the most was the report (linked to very early in the article) of a similar event in British Columbia five years ago in which spiders webbed over roughly 60 square acres of land.

Kindest regards,

Kevin P.

Make sure that you take a video camera with you, so we can watch the video of what happened to you after the web-covered camera is finally found.  I'm betting it will contain a lot of you screaming, then a shot as the ground falls away and you are pulled up into a webbed tree.

They've got a foothold! This is just the first step in the eventual conquering of Earth and the subjugation of the Human species!  TeddyR

I actually saw this on the news the other night. I would not go within 50 feet of that area.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

How will we be able to tell if the giant spiders take over your mind and start posting here using your user name?

If he starts focusing on threads that contain references to flies, grasshoppers, and moths.

Spiders? Those "webs" look more like tent worm constructions to me. We've had a real infestation of those tent worms here in North Carolina this year, and what's shown in those trees looks exactly like what they've been making here.

Come to think of it, though, I've heard of movies about giant spiders, but I've never heard of a movie about giant tent worms... Hmmm...

I've always liked spiders, used to keep them in jars and an aquarium when I was a boy, social spiders are something I found out about recently, I would really like to see the web up close. Although if the webs eventually cover all of Texas, I'd probably have to rethink that.
