From CNN:

This sucks. I knew he had been sick for a long time, but I was still surprised to learn this. I don't know if anyone else here read his stuff, but I enjoyed his work, even if his Wheel of Time series got a little too bloated. I just wonder who will finish it now.

RIP.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

That's a shame, the man was only 58.  I haven't read any of his books, but I know the Wheel of Time stuff is loved (except for the last few) by many.

I dread the day that my two favorite authors die, which probably won't be far away.  Russell Hoban is 82, and Ray Bradbury is 87.  Luckily the two are still writing like crazy.

Too bad.  I was never interested in reading the series, but I know it is extremely popular.  Reading his blog, he seemed like a very nice man.

Here it is: http://www.dragonmount.com/RobertJordan/
On a side note, the 12th book (intended to be the last) is going to be finished.

Sorry to hear about that.  I tried to read the WHEEL OF TIME, finished the first five or six books, and discovered the series wasn't even finished yet.  When the next one came out over a year later, I tried to read it, had forgotten half of the stuff in the first six, looked at the massive amount of reading to catch up, and heard there were going to be 12 books in the series . . . and gave up.

But I digress.  RIP, Robert.

indianasmith, I had a similar experience. I had read the first two books right before the third was released, thinking it was going to be a trilogy. Before I started on the third one, I read an interview with Jordan where he said the series was going to be six books. I decided to wait until all of them were out before re-reading the first two and then tackling the rest. As the years went by, the number of volumes in the series jumped from six to seven to eight to ten and then finally twelve. 15+ years have gone by and I am still waiting for the series to be complete so I can read it.
