I like the Land of Confusion cover.  I also like Disturbed's cover of "Shout" by Tears for Fears.

Other covers I like:
Spin me Around by Marilyn Manson
I'm Your Boogieman by White Zombie
Along Comes Mary by Bloodhound Gang

"Those were the days" by Leningrad Cowboys
"Jolene" by The White Stripes
"When doves cry" by Damien Rice

and many many more....

DAN HICKS wrote a song and recorded it with DAN HICKS & HIS HOT LICKS "I Scare Myself" (it's on Striking It Rich) which was covered a decade later by THOMAS DOLBY on his second full album, The Flat Earth.  It's a good song, fully realized by HICKS but completely humorous in his hands, and transformed into a forlorn observation with a heartbreakingly subtle late-night arrangement that haunts dreams... THOMAS DOLBY is a very talented songwriter, but a superb interpreter....I love that cover, probably my favorite, can't recommend The Flat Earth enough (it's out of print stateside... )

Hey AllHallows

You can get Flat Earth from www.cduniverse.com   They're selling it for US $9.79.  They have it on backorder, but I guess you could put your name on the list.

Thanks, Killer Bees, I have that CD.    I am into recordings still, a longtime (long ago) LP buyer, and now buy CDs too often, including imports and used.  I have a stack of about 20 unopened, some have remained sealed for years!  I'm not exactly crazed, but I'm really into my music.   Smile

Roger that, but you have me intrigued now.  I think I'll put my name on the list to by the CD.  I used to love Thomas Dolby in the 80s.

Some more songs to add to my list all by Tori Amos:

Love Song (The Cure)

Losing My Religion (REM)

Do It Again (Steely Dan)  This one is completely brilliant

Famous Blue Raincoat (Leonard Cohen)

A Case Of You (Joni Mitchell)
I'm not a fan at all of Joni Mitchell and I heard Tori's version first, so I just love the song.  I've since heard Joni do it and I couldn't believe that Joni ruined her own song with her caterwauling  BounceGiggle

Some I like..

"It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" Hole
"Gold Dust Women" Hole

(What's weird about these songs, is BOTH are covers, both are by Hole, and BOTH are featured as soundtracks in two Crow movies.)

"Land of Confusion" Disturbed

"Send Me An Angel" Zeromancer (a REALLY great song, BTW)

"Paint It Black" Glob

"I've Got You Babe" Beavis and Butt-head with Cher  :)

"Castlevania: Bloody Tears" Cradle of Filth (this would be a cover, right?)

"O Fortuna" Apotheosis (one of THE best techno/dance songs I've ever heard.)

"These Boots Are Made for Walking" KMFDM

"Owner of a Lonely Heart" Max Graham vs Yes (course, this might be more considered a remix, rather than a cover)

"Video Killed the Radio Star" Presidents of the USA

"All Along the Watchtower" Battlestar Galactica (can't recall the artist's name off-hand)

All been mentioned, but that's cool.

Van Halen - Your Really Got Me

Run DMC / Aerosmith - Walk This Way

Johnny Cash - Hurt

I guess these ones haven't been mentioned, but whatever.

Guns N' Roses - Knockin' On Heavens Door

Metallica - Turn The Page

Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams

Some great choices there, Rich.  The DK's Viva Las Vegas and Avengers' Paint it Black would definitely be on my list as well.

Some others would be:

"These Boots Were Made For Walking"- Jet Boys
"Shake, Rattle, and Roll"- Teengenerate
"Latest Flame"- Misfits
"Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves"- Anti Nowhere League
"No Fun"- Sex Pistols
"Steppin' Stone"- Minor Threat
"Sweatbox" (the entire album of cover tunes)- Supersnazz

and I'm sure there are many others I am not thinking of at the moment.
