I was browsing IMDb and noticed they were making CB's short story, The Midnight Meat Train, into a film.  What astounds me is that the director is none other than Ryuhei Kitamura (Godzilla Final Wars, Azumi, Versus).   Why is it I find that astounding?  Well, if they stick to the actual plot, the film could easily be covered in, say, an hour (which means it would make a worthy episode of Masters of Horror).  Kitamura tends to drag his movies out a little long.  I call him the Japanese Peter Jackson for a reason.  Okay, so maybe he's not that bad, but anyone who can make a Godzilla movie longer than two hours really knows how to drag a movie.  Hopefully, Kitamura will keep the film shorter than usual, although I think this is a great pairing since I like some of Kitamura's style and I'm a huge fan of Barker.

I was pretty excited about this one being announced since it's such a nasty short story, but hopes were dashed when Kitamura was announced as the director.  I like some of his movies, but like you, I think the guy needs to love his footage a little less and learn to cut out the filler.

The short story is great but I'm not a fan of the chosen director.

Hopefully the script and subject matter will succeed in spite of the director.
