Well, as shown in this (which was only published in Antartica), it turns out he never left!

Good one. Easy to see why Lyman was one of my favourite Garfield characters. The guy was hilarious to look at. Check out that 'stache. He could have been from Dr. Zoidberg's planet.

Yeah, I was laughing the whole time I made that. He was one of my Favs from the earlier comics too. I remember when I was young, I thought his 'stash were his teeth. Kinda creeped me out.

There was a trend a few years ago of removing Garfield's thought balloons from select strips - thus changing the strip from the comical adventures of an over-weight, wise-cracking cat to a truly disturbing  look at the sad, lonely life of a troubled, depressed man who talks to his cat.

Used to be quite good, but rarely amuses me anymore.  I have my doubts Jim Davis actually writes it anymore.  He farmed out that other strip with his name on it - I'd guess the same thing is the case now.
