From the LA Times and originally posted at the IT Came from the Vault Forums:

Screenwriter/director Charles B. Griffith passed away Friday, at the age of 72. Charles wrote screenplays for many Roger Corman films including "It Conquered the World,' "Attack of the Crab Monsters," "Not of This Earth," "A Bucket of Blood," "Teenage Doll," "Creature from the Haunted Sea," and "Rock All Night." He is best known for directing the original black & white classic, "Little Shop of Horrors" which was eventually made into a popular musical in the mid-80s.

From the LA Times:
He was born in Chicago on Sept. 23, 1930. His grandmother was Myrtle Vail, a former vaudevillian. He is survived by his wife, Marmory James; his daughter, Jessica Heeps; and four grandchildren.

Rest in peace Charles, your contributions to b-movie cinema will not be forgotten.  Bluesad

If only more low-budget movie screenwriters had his knack for creating stories that had potential.  Sure, some of the stuff he wrote turned out terrible, but a couple of them are really good - especially when you realize the kind of budget available.

He wrote "Beast from Haunted Cave," one that I recently reviewed.  More people should give that movie a try.  It is a cool blend of monster movie and crime story.  "Not of this Earth" and "Little Shop of Horrors" are great and "It Conquered the World" was a good try.
