I spent most of the day today playing Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, released way back in 1993 for the PC. It's a cool game, and I'm glad I'm finally getting around to playing it.

I'm also playing Lost Odyssey and Assassin's Creed for the 360.

Guess you're using DOSBox, then. Those old games and Windows shouldn't mix. I use DOSBox myself all the time, mostly to play "Stunts" and "Wolfenstein 3D".

Actually, I was able to find a webpage where somebody had created an easy install program that takes care of all the little tweaks you need to run the game, which was pretty neat.

I've had to use DOSBox a lot as well, although I've also had some success with VDMSound, mostly for the Leisure Suit Larry games. DOSBox reminds me a lot of how much I do not like MS-DOS. I'm so glad the days of boot disks and reconfiguring config.sys and autoexec.bat files are over.

I can understand that. People who start using PCs this days can do almost everything they want after a few seconds of reading message boards, then using colourful assistants filled with balloons and whatnot. I love DOSBox, but I certainly don't miss MS-DOS 6.22.

If you are a regular DOSBox user, though, you can do without typing a single character. There are many useful frontends out there, like DBGL or D-Fend Reloaded. Here's how mine looks like:

The only draw I find in this DOS emulator are the system requirements. Almost everybody can play point and clic adventures, but it takes a real high-end PC to play 3D shooters.

I quit SOCOM II for the PS2 about 2/3rds of the way through.  It was getting boring and frustrating.  I got to this one mission where I got killed about 25 times.  You have to restart the mission from the beginning every time, my guys kept getting themselves killed, they usually ignored my orders, and if I made it through the first 15 minutes of the mission then snipers would appear all around us and somebody would instantly get killed, ending the mission.  It wasn't all that great a game to start with, the character movements were pretty cheesy (I love shooting a guy who's busy running while he's stuck against a wall).  You could shoot a guy 3 times and it would have no effect, then hit 'em a fourth time and they'd drop dead.  I guess the main appeal of the game is to play it online, but I don't feel like hooking my PS2 up to the internet, getting one of those headsets, blah blah blah.  I got it used for 5 bucks at Gamespot, no great loss.

Went back to playing Project Snowblind for the PS2.  I haven't played it in a while, it's my favorite first person shooter of all time.

Joined a NetFlix style game service called GamezNFlix.com a few weeks ago and they sent me Excite Truck. I'm enjoying the heck out of it, but I'm glad I rented it rather than purchased it. I might pick up a used copy somewhere down the line, but right now my wallet's sights are set squarely on Mario Kart on Sunday.  TeddyR

As am I.  Somewhere just after the "Snow Beast" section.  I found my mom in a temple thing and was tested.  Right about there.

I have like, 7 tests to complete.  They give you 75 seconds to defeat like, 100 or more enemies.  I beat them, but I keep not passing the next test.  I gotta keep restarting at the temple until I'm done all 7 I suppose.

Picked up Mario Kart Wii yesterday and have put in a good 8 hours or so already. When we showed up at GameStop yesterday, the guy behind the counter immediately asked, "Mario Kart?". The game looks pretty good (not as nice as Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros.), I enjoy the sizable cache of unlockables (there's actually an excuse now to run time trials!), I like the variety in tracks (32 in all!), and the Wii-mote controls have been great so far (drifting still eludes me though...). I'm so used to Mario Kart Double Dash though (fiancee and I play it everyday) that I'm really starting to miss having two characters in my kart and I definitely hope the personalized special weapons make a return in the next installment. So far so good. I'd give it a 4-out-of-5 as it stands.  Thumbup TeddyR

I'm looking to pick that up shortly.  The Wii is my first foray into the next gen game consoles.  I loved the old NES and N64, but in the past few years have been a diehard PlayStation fan.  But the PS3 costs way too much, and I hate XBox with a passion, so I grabbed a Wii.  I've been playing the hell out of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.
