Chris Pine is in negotiations to play James T. Kirk in the new Star Trek movie. Eric Bana has signed up to be the villian in the movie (probably a Romulan if the rumors about the plot are true).

Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz)  has been cast as Scotty.

John Cho (Harold of Harold and Kumar) has been cast as Sulu.

Casting for Dr. McCoy should be coming soon.

The word is that this movie is budgeted in the 150-160 million range.  The most expensive Star Trek movie (Nemesis) only had a budget of 60 mil.

Wow, Trek: Simon Pegg as Scotty? Smile

I'm sitting here at 16h13 on a long hot Friday afternoon just thinking how that would look and sound.

"Damnit, Captain, the phasers dinna work! Give me over my shotgun, I'll make the boogers jump!"
"You dare to insult mah ship? [rude raspberry noise and rude sign] Jog on!"

This is some seriously interesting casting for sure.  But somehow Simon Pegg as the new Scotty makes perfect sense.................

If Eric Bana is to play the villain, then I guess that means Russell Crowe won't be in the film. No skin off of Mr. Crowe, but I just couldn't see him as a villain in a "Star Trek" film.

According to Joe Carnahan's blog, Chris Pine has signed on to be Captain Kirk in JJ Abrams Star Trek.   He gives the kid some good advice.

    Kids:

The young man playing Junior Stemmons has opted to 'boldly go where no man
has gone before' and thus, had to bow out of WHITE JAZZ. I've been talking
to him this past week and knew how tough the decision had to be for him.
I don't envy ever being in that spot but I gave him my full support, even if
it meant he didn't do JAZZ. I get it. You don't get opportunities like that
often and I told him as long as he could control as much of that process as
possible and not get sucked into doing lesser sequels as a result of taking
this gig, then good luck and God bless.

We're sure to do something down the road. I've already slotted him in for
    KILLING PABLO.

    JC

It also looks like Karl Urban is going to be "Bones" McCoy (Don't know how I feel about this one).

I can't remember his name, but the guy who plays Sylar on Heroes has, apparently, been cast as Spock which is as perfect as it gets, but not as perfect as Simon Pegg as Scotty.  I couldn't possibly be more excited about that.  My interest in Star Trek had seriously waned over the years but this has me grinding my teeth in anticipation.

I have a strong feeling that this movie will rock.

Bruce Greenwood has been cast as Captain Christopher Pike. As most know, Pike (played by Jeffrey Hunter) was captain of the Enterprise before Kirk.

Hey, that's a casting choice I can actually live with.  I really liked his performance as the lieutenant in David Twohy's BELOW.
